That’s not correct. They do have a dedicated ROI version of C4, with ROI advertising and all. This has been the case since C4 went on the ROI EPG I think. And it’s encrypted. Programmes have been blocked in the past on it, though I haven’t seen it happen in years.
And sure enough, tomorrow has “Programme Not Available” in the EPG on Channel 4 from 4:15pm-7:30pm and 9:45pm-10:45pm.
Of course it can be easily circumvented by turning in one of the U.K. versions in other channels. Some people may have done this already to get C4 in HD (the ROI version is SD only).
It looks like the coverage is also going to be blocked on cable. That is a first, C4 programme have never been blocked on that platform in the past.
Interestingly Premier Sports has no issue with broadcasting its coverage of Scotland, Wales, and NI to its ROI audience.
