Yeah, and I wouldn't agree that it needs to be earlier. We've had football highlights late at night at the weekend for over fifty years now, it's a proper part of the public consciousness, and it just wouldn't seem right in any other slot. I certainly far prefer it there, as I have a football-phobic partner it means it doesn't dominate the evening, and also at the final whistle I'm a bit footballed out, and I like having a bit of time to watch something else. And it means Match of the Day can be a bit more reflective and look at it with a bit more perspective. It suits me absolutely fine.
The one thing that would make it better is if the final day was a Saturday, as it was in 2001, 2002 and 2004 (so two of the three seasons ITV had highlights rights) because it means you don't have to stay up past midnight on a worknight and all the Saturday programmes can be in their regular slots. I always thought that was a good idea, but seemingly it didn't do the required business and it's been on Sunday ever since.
