Both FA Cup games rated quite modestly yesterday as they clashed with each other

This midweek round of the FA Cup isn’t great for neither football viewers or non football viewers, can someone with more knowledge than me explain how it has come about, is it a regular thing now, or a one off this year due to the World Cup or Covid or something?

I might be completely wrong but I think it's to best accommodate league fixtures. The leagues can continue to play on the weekends whilst 8 teams play in mid-week and then the weekend. It's less of an issue for the quarter-finals and semi-finals when it's fewer teams, easily managed.
