SU2C managed through to 2am, though not sure if the last hour was live or not - but it was presented as if it was the after show.

I don't think presenters are a factor in cutting it to three hours - they could easily find three to host the primetime section and another three to host the late night element, even if it is a different group every year. For me it just seems to be reflective of a lack of ambition nowadays - they think they can get away with finishing at 10pm so they will. It really doesn't take much more to push it out to after midnight. Get Graham Norton to do his show live (as he's done for Comic Relief previously), and then a couple of randoms to wrap up things afterwards with the usual replays of key content from earlier in the night and you're soon hitting 1am.
