On a related note I suppose it could be argued that ATV set up the so-called "Crossroads Caring for Carers" charity off the back of a storyline featured in the original show, taking something fictional and making it real. ATV fed some money to get a pilot scheme going for the charity that ran for two years before it stood on its own., and its still running today best part of 35 odd years later. Not entirely sure if ATV (or later Central) had anything to do with it once the pilot ended.
