I think the issue is that some see calling the PM ‘Boris’ rather plays up to an image of him as a loveable, daft chum, which arguably benefits his appeal. In contrast, I don’t think ‘Maggie’ was ever used in a particularly positive way.

My recollection 'Maggie' was used by those who hated, and loved her, admittedly with different inflections, and perhaps skewed towards the 'negative' ?

You could arguably say applies to Mr Johnson, (perhaps skewed towards the positive though)?
