Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Quite like the studio. Just a shame that the building has a lip on the roof that is blocking the Library of Birmingham shot where the main presenter sits. Ironically, the BBC Three studio doesn’t have that but the view isn’t as good (derelict land next to the fantastic exchange building).

The Exchange is a wonderful building to pop into, have a wander around, a drink, do some work at. I assume it's off-limits during the Games.

They should have built the merch shop and studio on the derelict land. It's the site of the council's former House of Sport. From 2006:

The Birmingham Sport and International Events team has opened its new headquarters – called the House of Sport – at the former Register Office site in the city centre.

The sports service delivers programmes in more than 12 sports, supports 59 constituency sport and leisure facilities, develops health initiatives, provides training and development for 1,500 staff, coaches and volunteers and organises World and European Championships.

Birmingham City Council’s head of sport and international events, Brian Stocks, said: “Bringing our whole team together in the city centre means that we can work together to develop the great opportunities the 2012 Olympics will bring to Birmingham and raise our profile as a major sporting city.”

...so a shame it's now stood empty in view of the whole country via BBC Three.

That's unusual for 28.2 to carry anything other than DTH isn't it?

No, not entirely, it now carries the BBC DAB distribution, and I think also D1 and SDL ?

The reflection of the autocue and camera numbers in the windows after the sunset is quite distracting.

One downside about a home games is we do lose the "best of the rest" slot, which worked so well for the last couple of Olympics. BBC1 has highlights for an hour from 10.40 (and I think it is highlights rather than a more informal show as they did in 2014), but wouldn't have been a bad idea to keep BBC3 on air through to midnight for a couple of hours to round up some of the sports they've not shown.

Did it even show the t20 yesterday on the main channels I don’t think it did.

Got a decent recap on the highlights but you wouldn't really expect non-home nations to feature live.

There have been adhoc OBs on there for a couple years now, NEP use it occasionally, CNN used it a lot during the last Royal Wedding. I think its on a transponder that cannot be used for DTH but maybe someone else knows the technical reason.

It is on Astra 2F as that is a good satellite for receiving into a smaller dish, such as those mounted on uplink trucks.
There is a reasonable amount of ad hoc space available on it, it is not just the direct to home use it is best known for.
You will not find much in the way of feeds on satellite though during the Games.

There was one today but it was more like a cameraman on the pavement then it disappeared.
