Farewell...

I may have been mainly a lurker, but, thank you Rob for your service and work! I'll definitely miss some posters when the curtains will fall, but, c'est la vie, life goes on.

I created this forum purely to continue the conversation from TV Forum, and I'm proud that I did it. However, I have felt more and more miserable as time has gone on, and my mental health has suffered as a result.

...

To those of you who have continued to criticise me, I simply want to say this... you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. Because of your words, you are depriving people of a place to discuss television presentation, and robbing me of a site that I've been really proud to work on. Karma is a wonderful thing, and I just hope that one day you look back on what you've said about me and feel really bad about what you've done.

Thank you, and don't forget to switch off your sets...

Sorry to hear this Rob.
Just goes to show it in any project there's always somebody who has to spoil it for everybody else.

But thank you Rob for all your work, and all your effort in setting up the forum in continuation of TV Forum, and while I have been around since December 2001 (so over 20 years now!) this phase has been short but sweet.

Oh Rob mate. I am so sorry that this has affected you so badly. You're a bright, fun, smart bloke and I hate to think that you're hurting.

As gutted as I am personally because you have done what I thought was impossible and created a more-than-worthy successor to the blue place, you've got to look after yourself first and I hope that you do.

Such a shame, but mental health is rightfully the priority. I am so sorry that it's come to this Rob. You never deserved this treatment from some other forum members. It's just not fair when you are so passionate about something, and others ruin it for you.

I've thoroughly enjoyed searching across the whole forum over the past year or so, and I would like to thank Rob and the moderation team for all of their hard work towards TVLF. This place wouldn't have been the same without you lot.

I wish everybody the best, and I'd like to think you enjoyed this journey too. Smile

This is extremely sad news. However, Rob, your health comes first and foremost.

I can't imagine why someone would want to criticise you for providing a free community. If they were having issues, they should have left, rather than spoil it for others.

The very best of luck for the future, Rob.

Really sorry to hear this Rob. Not so much about the forum closing - though I'll certainly miss it - but because of what you've been going through. I feel awful that we as a community have not been better at supporting you. When TV Forum closed, it wasn't a given that we would find a new home for discussion. But you took the lead and opened the doors to this place. You created a site that successfully carried on the spirit of TV Forum without being a cheap copy. You built on the legacy and created something new.

That there are some here who act with immaturity and a sense of entitlement - that without contributing as much as a penny, feel that they have the right to attack you and demand things of you - is deeply unpleasant. So, I completely understand your decision and the reasons for it. I regret enormously the price you have paid for it.

Oh dear, I really hoped this place would last long too.
But mental health comes first before anything else. I'm surely going to miss this place.
I'm sorry that you had to experience such horrible abuse, Rob and I really hope these idiots who did this to you regret what they've done cos now thanks to their disgusting actions, they've managed to get this wonderful successor to TVF killed off too...

Best of luck in the future, Rob.

Will basically echo what everyone else has said. Thanks for your efforts of the last 18 months or so Rob and look after yourself. That is the most important thing.

I’m really sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough time Rob. Thank you for continuing the conversation, fighting with setting the thing up in a stable and stylish way, dealing with transferring from one host to another. You dealt with it all admirably.

However supporting online chatter is small beer when compared to being pressurised about your mental health. That must come first.

I'm very sorry to hear this

Sorry to hear that you're closing these forums, and that it's due to (presumably) a minority of individuals. However, mental health is important, and I completely understand why you've come to your decision. I think you've done a good job at running these forums since TVF closed, along with your team of moderators. The blue 'verified' user status was a particularly good innovation. Hopefully someone else step forward to provide somewhere (other than DS) where discussion can continue, though particularly having been a TVF mod I can also understand why some people may not wish to.

Hello guys!!

Yes, I've been there before! And it was great talking to you all!
I want to thank Rob for a great job and creating the site!

Unfortunately, it's a pity that so many people just stupidly crap and insult the forum and Rob! It offended me too! But the case went to court! I ignored these people!

For me, the TV Forum is about communicating with good people who understand television!

For the critics. Heroes! If you're so clever, let me put you behind the microphone and the remote and we'll all have a laugh here Smile)) You've polluted the forum enough that you won't even be allowed on TV!

So I wish Rob to calm down and rest from such *idiots* (critics)! I also wish you all a good rest!!! Smile

Really sorry to hear this Rob, thanks so much for taking on the mantle of continuing the discussion from the old place, it's a real shame that this is going the same way but the important thing is that you look after yourself. You can be very proud of what this forum has provided, there have been a quite few major events in its short lifetime and I have to say I've found out one or two things about my job first from this place!

Take care, and I hope you know that this has been really appreciated.

What a shame. I understand your reasons why and fully support them Rob, shame on those that have made this such a mentally draining prospect when it should have been a happy one.

I hope that an alternative forum is set up in the meantime to 'take over' as such. I really miss the Blue Place and am now goign to miss the Pinky/Purple Place too. If I had the technical skills to create a forum myself and the time to devote to running and maintaing it, I would, but alas I do not. I only hope there is somewhere created soon for us to continue to discuss presentation and carry on the great work that has been started here.

It's a shame that some people wreck it for everyone, however no one should be subject to abuse, whether in the real world or online.

As a long term mental health sufferer my self, you need to look after your wellbeing as a priority ..

Do what makes you happy Rob, and if mean walking way from a project, then so be it, Its not the end if the world and thank you for the hard work and it has been a enjoyable time here as a newbie. Good luck with your health and future, and your radio career!

As a side note.

In the real world, if we walked into someone place of work or home and started giving them abuse, that wouldn't be tolerated etc. Just because it's over the Internet, in a forum, people think the same rules don't apply. What goes around, eventually comes around. One day the bullies will meet their match.
