BBC (Miscellaneous): 2021 Rebrand
Update:

For those on Android. Try to get yourself on the Beta version of the BBC Sport App. It has updated well on my tablet. Now, News, Weather and Sounds to go.

The sounds app has the new icon on my BF's Android phone.

Funny thing is on the Android based FireOS tablet I use that I modified to handle the Google framework and accept actual Android apps. On the Play Store, no luck, no update. On the Amazon Appstore updated with the Icons. Now News and Weather to go.

Received an update on the BBC News (BBC Studios one) Android app, 29/3/2022 version - still the old icon and interface.
Now on TVTalk, Pres Café and DeviantArt. Goodbye to all that, TVLF.
Clear message here… get yourself an iPhone! ???
For the international version of the BBC News app, the update that came yesterday for iOS just updated the app header to Reith. No new interface or icons.
The rebrand doesn’t quite make as much sense as it did on the previews. My understanding was the icons effectively were the blocks, often seen standalone or next to “NEWS”, “SOUNDS” or “iPLAYER”.

But now they’ve stuck “BBC” on top of the icon. So is the icon supposed to represent the service name? It’s as if they’ve freaked a bit that nobody knows what these icons mean and so stuck a BBC logo on.

I just hope it’s a transition thing.

Someone on Twitter was complaining that the BBC News app icon didn’t feature the word ‘News’ - I pointed out that he’d managed to find Twitter with just a bird!

I'm fairly sure the icons are for UK audiences only - that's why you won't see the News one on Twitter for example.

The icons are described not as logos, but signifiers which main job is to push people towards the Apps (iPlayer, Sounds, News, Sport, Weather and Bitesize).

OOH, KILL 'EM!
<t>Here is the British Broadcasting Corporation with the Nine o’clock News. <br/>
1988 theme plays, but the melody at the end is the Tagesschau theme.</t>

Is there something in the brand guide that details what to do for a promo endboard that doesn't have a blip at the end?

The bbc sport app icon has updated on iOS you have to uninstall the app first to see it like the news app.

No you don’t. It updated just normally a few days back. No uninstall needed.

They’ve all just updated for me - News, Sport, Sounds and iPlayer.
