Technically it would have been a good move, but I suspect ITN like being on a longish lead. Wow - moving ITN to the south bank. If ITN had moved to TLS before 2018, do you think ITV would have had to have kept the whole London Studios complex up and running? Why would they? If the owner of a building wants to sell up and evict tennants as its being redeveloped they can do that.
Bluecortina, I assume this was pre Grays Inn Road when the South Bank was less occupied? Without some building work I can't see they'd have had quite as nice or as big a space as they ended up with - not that big open plan newsroom certainly.
Would have changed post 1992 arrangements too, would LNN and GMTV have set up there too? and finding room for Channel 5 news some years later

Twice I have now tried to post a detailed point by point answer to your questions but this website insists on me logging in - even though I am logged in.
I can't be bothered any more.
For anyone interested, here's the recreated set, in studio 5.

I can't be bothered any more. Doh, that's a shame but thanks anyway.
FWIW I've not had that problem but I have got caught out by the way that this forum doesn't remember posts that are in the process of being written when the page refreshes or similar. The old TV Forum did and I relied on it a lot.
Now if I ever write something very long I'll copy it to clipboard as a back up

I know someone whose BC-based department is moving to the Energy Centre. It seems the BBC are banking on a lot of home working, which I don't think is going to be universally popular.
I can't see ITN leaving GIR any time soon, as some here have suggested. It's a pretty well-connected building, with Globecast and NEP also having broadcast facilities there. (I don't know if NBC are still there but wouldn't be surprised if they'd moved in to one of Comcast's other London sites)

I find manipulation of trimming up a quoted post on here very clunky on my phone, and more tricky than the old place. No problem on a proper computer though

I am on a proper computer.
I log in, use the quote facility of an existing posting, add my tuppence worth to the quote by way of a reply and try to post my answer and I am invited to log in again. By which time my original post is not present. It does seem to depend on the time taken to compose my reply, shorter ones like this are ok, longer one's not so much.
The first clip in this video, of the friends experience in Atlanta, shows the outside of the building, which has a very LWT feel to it, with the same colour scheme and lines which have remarkable similarity to the famous idents.

Ha. I used to love Stanley Baxter's LWT series. I remember reading that then LWT boss Michael Grade said he often had to sign off un affordable and outrageous special effects budgets for it.

Oh blimey, we went past on the South Bank side last week and there weren't any clues that demolition was imminent. Oddly enough I was remarking to my wife that it seemed strange they hadn't found any takers for the big satellite dishes at the front - I guess they'll be in a scrapheap pretty soon.

Together with the standby power generator that’s still on the podium roof. It hardly got any use apart from routine testing. I would have thought it was worth a substantial amount, perhaps it might still be sold?

It was quite eerie being in the building with all the emergency lights on but still on-air transmitting London Tonight to hardly anyone!
