Matt Baker coming back to a show he no longer presents to do the Rickshaw Challenge yet again shows how bereth of ideas they are

I know they do the Rickshaw Challenge every year, but if the audience is still engaging with it and it's still raising money, why not? The point of the Rickshaw Challenge is to raise awareness of the work that Children in Need does, via a week of outside broadcasts (on Morning Live this year rather than The One Show) where they can get a load of publicity and raise more money, and to cover to entirety of the UK. Any replacement will have to do all those things at least equally as effectively - so what could that be? You may as well do the Rickshaw Challenge again. There are always new people taking part, new projects to showcase, new places to visit - in the ten years they've been doing it they're barely scratched the surface of the UK. I know my family were particularly invested it a few years ago when it came to my home town with some people we knew in it, and that's repeated in various places across the UK every year. I'm not saying Children in Need is beyond criticism but it irritates me when people say it's "boring" or "lazy", people go above and beyond for this event entirely out of the goodness of their hearts. If that's what they want to do to raise money, nobody should be turning their noses up at it. If you think you have a better idea to raise money, why not go ahead and do it? That's the whole idea of it.

Are The One Show doing anything themselves then given it's being demoted to Morning Live? It does sound like they might be transitioning away from it, which isn't a bad thing.

Saw at the top of the show they'd be announcing what they're doing in tomorrow's show.
They're both women and that trumps regionality; ITV guidelines

I wouldn't say it was being demoted because as well as the Morning Live OBs, this year it's also getting its own hour-long special in primetime, which they've not done before.

The One Show's replacement for the Rickshaw Challenge is entitled 'The Surprise Squad'.

With regards to the content of the main night - I have seen on the SRO Audience ticket website that The Graham Norton Show will be recording an edition on the Thursday before Children in Need night - now usually Graham takes that Friday off, and so they would not be a show to record on the Thursday evening, but this year there is an edition scheduled for recording on Thursday 18th November 2021.
Now whether this is a Children in Need special I have no idea, but it is unusual for Graham to record an edition on the day before Children in Need, so either there is a special coming for the 10.35pm slot, or it is simply a regular Graham Norton Show for that Friday.

Just doing a live edition on the Friday would sort both issues, but does sound like they're giving up raising money at 10pm. Even if they only raised another million after the news surely it's worth it.

Yes this certainly interesting unless any live content is on BBC Two at 10PM or Graham Norton is planned to go out another night ( not sure if it an international weekend that week but don’t think it is ) then it does suggest that it only a 3 hour show again. Ever since Wogan died they have struggled with presenters and now cutting it down to 3 hours when both comic relief and stand up to cancer managed to get to midnight and beyond that it shows that the BBC really are struggling with the whole thing now. It used to be a massive event now it seeming to just go back maybe they do need to look at a massive revamp. Hopefully Graham Norton is something to do with it but a live show is probably ruled due to his radio show the next morning. Possibly a repeat of DIY SOS after that but I have a feeling it will just be a film instead.

SU2C managed through to 2am, though not sure if the last hour was live or not - but it was presented as if it was the after show.
I don't think presenters are a factor in cutting it to three hours - they could easily find three to host the primetime section and another three to host the late night element, even if it is a different group every year. For me it just seems to be reflective of a lack of ambition nowadays - they think they can get away with finishing at 10pm so they will. It really doesn't take much more to push it out to after midnight. Get Graham Norton to do his show live (as he's done for Comic Relief previously), and then a couple of randoms to wrap up things afterwards with the usual replays of key content from earlier in the night and you're soon hitting 1am.
