The Big Match Theme early 1980s

So I've been listening to some old TV themes, and whilst listening to Jeff Wayne's The Big Match theme, Jubilation, I get some vibes from his War Of The Worlds album, the music sounds kind of similar in many ways.

Do we think that's merely coincidence, or do we know that this was originally composed for that album, failed to make the cut, and was later repurposed for The Big Match?

I don't think so. Jeff was picking up a lot of tv and radio theme work around that time - World of Sport, 60 minutes, TV-am, LBC imaging/jingles, so Jubilation was just another composer/performer credit to add to the list.

He does have a general style, and he would have had the same synths and instruments to play with.

In case you think that’s a bizarre choice for a regional news theme, the previous theme used was Donna Summer’s McArthur Park Suite and the theme proceeding Jubilation was ELP’s Fanfare for the Common Man.

Didn't Jeff Wayne also do the music for 60 minutes? If so, that means BBC Spotlight had a Jeff Wayne theme in early 80s.
