2022 Winter Paralympics

I do think they should have stuck with live curling in the breakfast slot then had extended replays of overnight coverage from 9-11am, with any 11.30 GB curling games on More4 or 4Seven.

Really though the event itself suffers from being rather thin on content so C4 can only work with what is happening - sometimes that is a help rather than a hindrance but when sports are moved completely from their scheduled day it isn't ideal.

Agree studio presentation may have been more professional but I did switch from recording the highlights to the Breakfast show instead as Ed Jackson is a far better presenter than Ade Adepitan.

With Krishnan Guru-Murthy now out in Ukraine for C4 News, I wonder if C4 will just leave the other two Ceremonies commentators Rob Walker and Jade Etherington to do the CC commentary today, or if they'll parachute a substitute for Krishnan in

It’s a shame there isn’t a Today in Beijing on later this evening to show highlights of the last day and the closing ceremony. Channel 4 always seem to leave out a highlights programme for the last day of the Paralympics!

Ade Adepitan is nowhere to be seen in the run up to the Closing Ceremony, with Ed Jackson leading the build up from the mountain venues

Not sure yet if they've even got a reporter at the Bird's Nest

It is scheduled for immediately after the ceremony.

Haha oh yeah so it is! ? Consider this my rant over…

It is looking by like this closing ceremony will be wrapped up within an hour ? - and no ADs at all for C4 during the ceremony yet

I really hope that Milan-Cortina restore some of the fun and culture to the ceremonies, Beijing have almost been trying to speed through them as quickly as they can

Also, Andrew Parsons is VERY enthusiastic during his speeches isn’t he?

…and just as I say that, some dramatic drummers have just appeared

And with that, the flame is out, the games are over and Beijing 2022 has just drawn to a close

Xièxiè ni, zàijiàn Beijing

Slightly disappointed that C4 cut away from the lovely fireworks at the end, surely they could have just had Rob Walker summarising ParalympicGB's medal results and talking about the Ukrainian team at these Winter Paralympics afterwards - especially as they've still got 30 minutes to fill until the last Today in Beijing

Yes, the ceremonies have all been rather disappointing though I did catch the drummers earlier and it kind of felt a bit like normal service resumed, ever so slightly.

Paris of course will be quite different with their plans for the Olympic Opening Ceremony at least to be across the city (not sure if that extends to the closing and paralympic ceremonies) and we've got to hope covid won't be so much of a consideration then. I still wouldn't be surprised to see a U-turn on that plan for cost and security reasons and us end up with a more conventional stadium ceremony but we'll see.

The drummers earlier felt a slight callback to the Olympics OC from 2008, just on a massively smaller scale. But it was the only point from the Paralympic ceremonies that felt like normal service. The Winter Olympic ceremonies weren't much better, though there was some highlights in the OC and the 2008 throwbacks in the CC were nice.

I feel pretty much the same as you about the Paris ceremonies, and I too wouldn't be surprised to see a U-turn on either security or economic grounds either - the Stade de France was mooted as the ceremonies stadium before the organisers announced the river/city based plans for the Olympic OC - with the formalities and Closing Ceremony planned to take place at the Trocadéro. Can't find anything info on the Paris Paralympics ceremonies online yet.

Also, I also really want to see Paris and/or Milan-Cortina to go back to a proper cauldron for their games, as the Beijing snowflake has been quite dull and the flame being really small has a shame. Almost like the organisers knew full well that they couldn't compete with 2008's cauldron (which is now permanently located out on the Olympic Green actually) and so they just put as little effort in as possible.

The non-cauldron cauldron was ridiculous. One good thing about the Paris plan is hopefully it will mean an actual cauldron in the city being lit rather than a ceremonial cauldron in the stadium than a city centre version, which will be the focus, being lit without fanfare overnight.
