Well they are supposed to be verified and it was suggested after episode 1 the questions were set by the question writers and then chosen by the contestants.
I also think it's an idea which works better on practice than in reality, though I've always felt the penalty shoot out style final rounds, as also seen on The Weakest Link and Eggheads usually make for pretty dull endgames.

Good news, but it's one of those programmes where once the first series has gone out future contestants know exactly what to expect and it will lose a lot of its surprise value. Though I'd imagine the casting process will remove any of those with super good memories that could just storm in and win everything

Yes - filming the second alongside the first would have been ideal, but then again if it forces them to be more creative it's not a bad thing. They can have a bit of fun with "fake fake ad breaks" too - overloading them with information but then not actually using it as the basis of the questions that follow, though perhaps coming back to it much later in the show.

There's definitely other ways they can trick them into ignoring things they should be paying attention to. As Brekkie says, it gives them a chance to have some fun and be creative with it.
Without starting a discussion on the culture war though, I am very relieved to see this show get recommissioned after the controversy around Jimmy these last few weeks. Plenty of comedians appeared to stick the knife in during the Comedy Awards the other week, but I did spot Katherine Ryan jumping to his defence. Sometimes I wonder if people have forgotten what Jimmy's brand of humour is after appearing on more mainstream shows like I Can See Your Voice.

I don't think they 'stuck the knife in' at all, it was comedians making jokes about one of their own at their get together. As was said by Tom Allen if it was someone else then it would be Jimmy who would be makimg the jokes about them.
Katherine Ryan was the only one who spoke out directly, but you can be sure that other comedians there were thinking 'thank goodness it's him not me'
