Early cable exclusive channels

Pre 1989 there were a number of film channels exclusive to cable, a couple of which were owned by the Mirror group before L!ve TV - Mirrorvision and Premier - plus a few others, which had very mixed availability, and were often played out locally (and in those days without worrying about watersheds).

These all lost their rights to any worthwhile films when Sky and BSB competed for, and did deals with, all of the main film companies for their channels, and the cable channels couldn't compete with the price films now cost.

I understand the cable provider in Bradford (Telewest?) had a local channel too which was presented from a makeshift studio in the back of a clothes shop in Headingley.

I think Premier was actually on satellite. HVC (Home Video Channel) and several others that escape me (maybe Bravo) at the moment were delivered by a van of tapes and some floppy disks to control the playout computer. Though the slightly dubious content of HVC (caligula uncut), I always thought the "Home Vice Channel".

Wasn't early Bravo also just tapes sent to the local cable company?
