Youtube TV becomes the largest streaming LIVE paytv provider

With over 5million users YoutubeTv, currntly only offered in the US has become the largest streaming tv provider. Besting longtime rival Hulu w/LIVE TV.
COMCAST/NBC/UNIVERSAL owned Xfinity is down to 12 Million users, losing over 2million users in the last couple of years. Streaming is really starting to take off in the US. With many home cutting and running from tradional pay-tv providers. Because all you need is a internet connection and you can cancel anytime and you dont need to rent an expensive decoder box, which is a compete rip-off.

Pretty sure Netflix has significantly more than 5m subscribers in the US. And Amazon and Disney+ and Peacock and Paramount+, which tick the live box too.

This is just corporate spin which is seemingly in no way accurate.

Well, it depends on what you compare. Xfinity isn't a streamer, it's your classic cable company. So the point stands.

Also, Youtube TV really is a live streaming service. They provide linear channels like HBO or ESPN over the top. So they surely fall into a different category from Netflix.

The US has healthy competition for restreaming linear channels. Fubo, Sling and to a lesser extent Hulu all offer a similar service to YouTube TV all offer it at a lower cost to the consumer than the main cable/satellite companies which has allowed it to thrive over there.

Yeah I think there is some confusion over whats being described here. We arent talking about traditional cable tv via coaxial cable available in certain regions and have to be installed by a guy in a van. And we arent talking about singular streaming services like Netflix, Peacock or Paramount+. (those services basically are VOD offering their own content, by and large)

We are talking 100% internet available live streaming tv service that takes the place of traditional paytv/cable offer regular pay channels and a regions local network affiliates (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, Indies). Unlike traditional cable, its available and offered a national scale. As long as you have internet and a streaming box/stick (Roku, Chromecast, Firetv, AppleTV, XBOX, PlayStation or Internet Connected TV) you can sign up for its paytv service. YouTube TV subscribers can add extra entertainment viewing options by purchasing add-on channels Showtime ($7/mo.) and Starz ($9/mo). Further content add-ons include Acorn ($6/mo.), AMC Premiere ($5/mo.), CuriosityStream ($3/mo.), and Sundance Now ($7/mo.). The service began offering Cinemax and HBO as add-ons in February 2020. And HBO Max will be available when the new streaming service launches in Spring 2020.

And these are then incorporated into your user interface along with your regular YouTube subscriptions or recently viewed videos on Youtube. Im not sure what equivalent services are offered in the UK. Most of these LIVE TV streaming services offer varying DVR capacities for recording or pausing live. YouTubeTV offers unlimited recording. And one of big attractions is that these services can be canceled at anytime and are contractless and you dont need any rented decoder boxes or such equipment. These are the biggest differences with traditional paytv. And they started out very cheap because they trired to get around the bundled channel nightmare but the content providers have started put a stop to that forcing up the cost.

Hulu + Live TV (Hulu traditionally offers a Netlix like service but you can add on the LIVETV portion)

The closest to what the US restreaming services offer is NOW, which offers a VOD and live tv service on a PAYG basis using memberships, there's no DVR and Sky Glass. TVPlayer used to be a rival, but it has lost the majority of their channels and has become more of a VOD service as it's owned by a company that has the rights to numerous documentaries. (Sky have SkyGo for customers of their satellite and IPTV Glass service).

Unlike the US, the UK has pretty decent reception of antenna services for free and pay tv although expensive is still within those with disposable income, plus Sky and Virgin offer heavy retention deals to reduce churn. (Even NOW, a Sky owned product offers retention deals).
