W (Channel) Discussion - Jexedback - 16-02-2022 UKTV’s W is to go free to air, and launch on Freeview, according to Broadcast http:// https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/uktv/w-set-for-free-to-air-switch/5167769.article W to go free-to-air - Keith - 16-02-2022 It'll be interesting to see where it goes. I'm assuming channel 25 replacing Dave Ja Vu is the most likely. Alternatively I'd assume they'd have to buy another existing channel, and then either do a channel number swap or replace that channel. W to go free-to-air - Blubatt - 16-02-2022 If true, this is a great for Freeview and Freesat viewers. The last few months for Freesat, which I use, have been really good. Channel 4 broadcasting in HD again, Sky Arts joining the fold, and the potential of W being on the service too. W to go free-to-air - CCFG - 16-02-2022 Sadly it is most likely gonna be in 544x576 vaseline-o-vision. W to go free-to-air - This is UTV - 16-02-2022 Perfect BBC owned channel to fit Neighbours on!!! It all makes sense now!! Having it on a commercial BBC channel rather than the license fee BBC, does look better as the licence won't be propping up a foreign production. I believe its only a matter of time all uktv SD channels go FTA, with HD behind the paywall. W to go free-to-air - gottago - 16-02-2022 Finally the mystery as to why they bought that plump Freeview channel slot is solved, although not for Gold as I was originally convinced by. And no it certainly won't be funding the production of Neighbours! W to go free-to-air - Jon - 16-02-2022 Inspector Sands post_id=68727 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:If they’re no longer making subscription money they’ll be sure to want to grow the advertising reach.Keith post_id=68718 time= user_id=1115 Wrote:It'll be interesting to see where it goes. W to go free-to-air - Ash101 - 16-02-2022 Ah yes - this would explain the purchase they made from Ideal World? For CCXTV or whatever it was? I wonder if Covid delayed them making a decision, as that purchase happened over a year ago now? Pretty sure they launched Drama +1 on Freeview on the CCXTV space. For CCXTV or whatever it was? Indeed, but part of me believed that it was never the plan in the long term. Remember when either here or TVF went into a mini meltdown as it was rumoured that Gold had obtained a licence to broadcast on DTT. Given the switch to FTA, I’d be very surprised it didn’t reach DTT. Whilst I had Sky, this was a channel I almost never watched, nor understood why it still gets a prominent position on the EPG, however its move to FTA is most welcome, and certainly welcome should it come to DTT. W to go free-to-air - London Lite - 16-02-2022 It'll make no difference to me, it's likely UKTV will keep the HD version of W behind the paywall, so won't watch in blur-o-vision on Freeview. W to go free-to-air - Lynetwork - 16-02-2022 I wonder whether the presentation will get an overhaul - I love the current idents but I've never liked the surrounding presentation that much. |
