Confirmed in the last hour or so that the fantastic Barry Cryer has died.

Barry was often 'wheeled out' (his own words) to pay tribute to many of the greats we have lost in recent years. I hope (and expect) there will be similar tributes made to him as he was incredibly supportive to comedians old and young.

Very sad to hear this news.
He simply was funny and also a generous comedian.
Years ago Barry and Willie Rushton came in to the Control Room to do down the line interviews. I put them in the small studio and straight away they were cracking gags and bouncing off each other. Lovely blokes, and so great to hear them performing to entertain themselves and each other.
I hope there is a full tribute shown or on the Radio, so we can laugh along with him again.

Sad news, I got a DAB Radio back around 2007/08 and was addicted to the repeats of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and Just a Minute on BBC7 and really appreciated Barry Cryer work on Clue with Humphrey Lyttleton, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Willie Rushden (sad that all bar Graeme have now passed on)
He was simply a legend and will be missed.

Probably falls in the definition of the comedians comedian. I think he contributed so much more to the craft over the years than many would realise, responsible for raising the profile of many household names ahead of putting the spotlight on himself.

Sad news that lovely Barry has kicked the bucket- I admire him because he carried on working in his old age right up to the very end. I'm remembering watching I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue back when Humph was presenting and Barry was always a highlight- even in the Jack Dee years, it was never the same when Barry was absent.It's only Graeme Garden now still left over from old-school I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue- Tim Brooke-Taylor has gone, Barry has gone, Jeremy Hardy has gone (not old-school but a big loss for show), good ole Humphrey Lyttleton has gone. Not many of the newer panellists they've gotten on have been that funny, so whenever Graeme's on again, at least you're guaranteed a laugh.

Barry was one of those comedians who didn't have to resort to political jibes to make things funny. ISIHAC will not be the same, many of the newer panellists seem to love making political retorts. What made ISIHAC work so well is that it was in its own world of silliness.
RIP Barry Cryer. You will be greatly missed.

Barry also had the best job in the history of television, getting to hang out with Kenny Everett and be on the studio floor during the recordings of The Kenny Everett Video Show, which look absolutely brilliant fun.
There's a bit in High Fidelity by Nick Hornby where the main character is asked by his girlfriend to write down a list of jobs he could do because he hates his current one, and he comes up with the likes of "NME Journalist, 1976-81" and "Producer, Atlantic Records, 1968-71". And top of my list would absolutely be crew member on The Kenny Everett Video Show - and probably Barry's job where he's already done the hard work* and can just turn up on the day to help out and offer up a few jokes. That'd be sweet.
* I say hard work, Ken always used to say in interviews that the writing process usually involved him, Barry and Ray Cameron going out to lunch and just trying to make each other laugh, and hopefully by the end of it having enough ideas for a programme. Though when he defected to the Beeb in 1981 he said in the Radio Times, "We used to get the show together in the car on the way to the studio, but TV Centre is only ten minutes from my house, so I don't know what we're going to do!"

Well he did say he didn't know how long he had left – so much so that he wouldn't 'even buy a green banana these days'.
Still, really sad to hear this, but what a life well-lived! I can't think of anyone else who's made such a large contribution to British comedy.
I was lucky enough to see him live three times – once in the audience of cheapo Yorkshire Television regional panel show, Cryer's Crackers (admittedly not his finest work), another time at a recording of ISIHAC in York, and also at one of his own live stage shows, which was possibly one of the funniest evenings I've ever experienced. I even hung around afterwards to get to meet him, and a lovely chap he was too (and it's always a risk meeting your heroes).
Hoping there's a good tribute show planned.

Barry and his son Bob launched a podcast just before Christmas which is excellent and chock full of anecdotes from him and his guests. Hopefully they managed to get a few more episodes in the can to release posthumously

It's very telling that reading the very many wonderful, warm threads on Twitter of people who have worked with or met Barry over the years, not once have I seen the usual thing on these occasions of some fool chipping in with an ill-timed story of how the subject of the tributes was rude to them or similar. We've lost one of the good ones.
