Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - JetixFann450 - 01-12-2021 Since we're on the cusp of the new BBC One Christmas idents come Saturday, I thought about making a thread celebrating other TV channels which implemented their own festive tweaks to their presentation. I'll start off with idents that I find ingeniously clever, the Cartoon Network bumpers from 2000, where they used trees, raindeers, decorations and crackers to reveal they are part of the Cartoon Network logo. https://youtu.be/frsS7S7Bmbo Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Michael - 01-12-2021 BBC Two had two fantastic packages in the 2010s. This was just perfection and this was wonderful too Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Brekkie - 01-12-2021 My favourite of recent years is the original C4 Christmas Lights one. https://youtu.be/cYwPCX93NKg Sadly it only ran two years and was retired when the idents were tweaked to include the C4 logo, although I'm sure it could easily have been incorporated. Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Michael - 01-12-2021 I have a soft spot for the C4 ones where the logo was replaced with a tree. Such a simple idea. https://www.tvark.org/?page=media&mediaid=10042 Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - CCFG - 01-12-2021 Brekkie post_id=56464 time= user_id=976 Wrote:My favourite of recent years is the original C4 Christmas Lights one. I love the 2015 C4 Christmas idents. Their next set (Block-man will be 5 years old next year, how time flies!) should take elements from them. The paper cut was lovely, but when the mountains premiered it lifted it up another notch. There was something about that soundtrack that was a little haunting, yet strangely festive, I didn’t mind them using them for a few years (well, until the “two, two, two, two, two, two” year!). For me I have a few because I love Christmas and the exciting presentation that we’re offered. BBC One 2001: https://youtu.be/a1-0dX9C1FU The animation, the warm setting and the simple jingle made these perfect, cosy and Christmassy. Channel 5 2001: https://youtu.be/pQN1r1tzf4w These were magical. The vintage style, the twinkling music and the climax was the positioning of the logo worked wonderfully. BBC One 2010: https://youtu.be/0N4RTVM1E2Q I like the long form idents, but the news variant with visuals of the lights and the scaled back music was beautiful. I could go on with many more, including the simpler idents, such as Channel 4’s stripy snowy Christmas tree logo idents and BBC One’s 1998 package, but I’ll end with something that as a channel made me interested in presentation and created such a magical feeling, CITV’s Christmas Ident 1998-2001 (with variations to the character and background): https://youtu.be/X12Bnzb-em8 Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - NorthTonight - 01-12-2021 BBC1 Christmas 1977 - simple and effective https://youtu.be/a_Y4TEUWCUE Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Blubatt - 02-12-2021 I have a few. Out of the ones mentioned, BBC One's 2010 look. Peak Circles era magic, for me. As well as the Channel 4 one for 2015/2016 The 1991 BBC Two Christmas look for its homage to 'A Trip to the Moon' and its memorable music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfG-YaOMzCk The Channel 5 Christmas ident introduced in 2020 is a solid one for me as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J53JoRlU7M Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Blubatt - 02-12-2021 JetixFann450 post_id=56459 time= user_id=1047 Wrote:Since we're on the cusp of the new BBC One Christmas idents come Saturday, I thought about making a thread celebrating other TV channels which implemented their own festive tweaks to their presentation. Also, great use of Shakin' Stevens as a bonus. Best era of Cartoon Network for me Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Neil Jones - 02-12-2021 Carlton at Christmas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQFcxGeWGt4 They had a couple of goes at this, the second batch adding a bit more snow, bells and what not over the Carlton logo which was missing from the first stab in 1999. And then of course when New Year came round: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hknXZ3qROsU Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Brekkie - 02-12-2021 This look from Five in 2008 was very strong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMgH9_8v5ks Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Transmission - 02-12-2021 I have a real soft spot for 1994 on BBC One, where the 1 was wrapped up on Christmas Eve and then unwrapped on Christmas Day: https://youtu.be/sjSXDzzkbKs And of course there was the classic of BBC Two in 1993: https://youtu.be/Q8X2oA3DKiI Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Robert Williams - 02-12-2021 I seem remember that at the time, a lot of people had a bit of a downer on BBC1's 2013 'wrapping paper' idents, but I think they are my favourites of recent times, not overly elaborate, just simple but effective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL23A85Lomg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYrNNieK__M Favourite Christmas TV Pres? - Brekkie - 02-12-2021 I agree - loved the simplicity of them. Then again I also liked the curtain idents from the year before. Have to say I was one of those people. They were warm and had some good bits, but were quite dull. 2014's set was a lot better imo. At least the programme being promoted was secondary to the tree designs themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDN4kT9A5GQ |
