Will see what happens - UEFA can be stubbornly unpractical.
The real issue is this is the second all-English final in three seasons with no free to air broadcast coverage - and there seems to be relatively little fuss over it. A few years ago such an event would have been good for at least 10m on ITV.

I believe making the finals free to view on social media is part of the contract - see this article, for example.

Not specifically social media, I think, or at least not limited to - they're usually free on Virgin Media, too. I seem to recall in the past they've been on the Virgin Media Previews channel, although I think for some they have also just made BT Sport freely available on Virgin for the game.

As has been suggested - those of us with BT Sport will obviously get it. In the past the final was made available on Youtube so expect the same again. I'm not sure ITV will try and get it live as it's readily available.

I'm not sure I can see the logic of any pay to view broadcaster taking a punt on rights to get a match, which if it is due to get a big audience, suddenly has to be free to air.

Because it's the entire competition across the season they buy the rights to, not just the final. I would imagine the calculation is that anyone who's desperate to see Champions League football enough to subscribe for it is going to do so for more of the competition than just the final.
