Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - JetixFann450 - 14-06-2022 Personally, I would've went for "Sky-Fi" but whatever. Syfy UK is going to be rebranded as "Sky Sci-Fi" from Tuesday 26th of July, offering up new science-fiction and fantasy programming alongside classic repeats of Syfy favourites. https://www.skygroup.sky/article/syfy-channel-re-brands-to-sky-sci-fi-offering-new-shows-and-fan-favourites RE: Sky Portfolio Changes - AxG - 14-06-2022 (14-06-2022, 12:36 PM)JetixFann450 Wrote: Personally, I would've went for "Sky-Fi" but whatever. The link doesn't work. Edit: It's my Avast being stupid. RE: Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - Larry the Loafer - 14-06-2022 As good as Sky-Fi sounds, I dread to think how the logo would look. Sky is literally rebranding everything! RE: Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - JetixFann450 - 14-06-2022 Interestingly enough, Syfy in Australia was also replaced for a similarly named Fox Sci-Fi, which seems pretty fascinating for NBCUniversal to start phasing out the Syfy name, at least internationally. I suppose because A). Syfy has fully been integrated into the Sky portfolio and B). that Sky can now easily integrate the channel for more streamlined access on their on-demand services. I do sort of wonder when NBCUniversal (or Comcast) will start to introduce certain brands like G4 into the UK. And Syfy has been fully integrated within Sky's channels to the point where it warrants a rebrand into the Sky fold, it's welcome to see it finally get a new lease of life. RE: Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - Kunst - 14-06-2022 Sky Fy wouldn't happen for various reasons: 1) Sci Fi is a genre, not "Fi" alone, following their internal logic 2) international expansion, partly: Sky Fy pretty much looks (and partly sounds) like "schifo" in Italian, or its "internet" hybrid counterpart "skyfo" (including "skyfi" in its plural form), as a term to criticize Sky Italia from time to time. Even if I doubt it'd come to Italy, but nevertheless, it's a minor brand, they can expand eventually it more easily by keeping it basic RE: Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - Rdd - 14-06-2022 It makes sense. I can’t be the only one that thought SyFy was bizzare from day one. (Didn’t the Big Bang Theory no less do the “Siffy” joke?). Sky obviously bolustering it’s brand portfolio as the move towards streaming, for most non-news, sports, and “event” programming gathers apace. Syfy already had a situation like that with it for example in Poland, where it's still called Scifi, because Syfy looks like "syfy" which is plural for like muck or mess in Polish. RE: Syfy to be rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi - Kunst - 15-06-2022 Indeed, but overall it's better to keep some consistency, like on Sky Documentaries, Nature ecc. |
