UEFA Women's Euro 2022 - RhysJR - 09-06-2022

The BBC have just announced their coverage plans for the upcoming Women's European Championships that will take place in England in July.
For what I believe is the first time, all matches bar the clashing final group matches will be either on BBC One or BBC Two, which is great to see!

Gabby Logan, Alex Scott, Reshmin Chowdhury, Eilidh Barbour and Kelly Somers will present. The rest of those involved are:
Quote:Expert insight and analysis will come from an international line-up that includes former England greats Fara Williams, Ian Wright, Alex Scott, Kelly Smith, Anita Asante, Izzy Christensen, Rachel Brown-Finnis and Sue Smith, Northern Ireland and Glentoran forward Caragh Hamilton, former Northern Ireland captain Gail Redmond, former French defender Laura Georges, Arsenal Women’s Head Coach Jonas Eidevall, Spain and Manchester City midfielder Vicky Losada, Anouk Hoogendjik, a Dutch international with over 100 caps for her country, and former Glasgow City and Birmingham City Women coach, Scott Booth.

Leading the commentary across all platforms are Robyn Cowen and Vicki Sparks. Other members of the team who will be joining them are Jonathan Pearce, Pien Meulensteen and Mark Scott.

Jo Currie (England camp reporter) and Kelly Somers (tournament reporter) will deliver audiences all of the updates and interviews from the Lionesses camp as they happen. Thomas Kane (Northern Ireland camp reporter) and Nicola McCarthy (tournament reporter) will follow Northern Ireland’s movements throughout the tournament.

There will also be in the build-up to the tournament, a new doccumentary about the growth of women's football with Alex Scott, and a Question of Sport special.

RE: UEFA Women's Euro 2022 - Brekkie - 09-06-2022

Thought they'd use BBC3 for most the evening games considering BBC2 has the 5pm games so surprised to see back to back games on BBC2. Good the England and NI games get BBC1 coverage.

Interesting they only seem to use Alex Scott as a pundit rather than host.

I think she's doing both?

Also interesting that Ian Wright is down as a pundit. He has done Women's football on ITV but never on the BBC before (at least not recently). It's probably the first time in ages he's done an international match on the beeb with players of either sex given he's been ITV only for recent men's tournaments.

This will be the third broadcaster he has worked as a pundit for on woman football as well after doing the same role for Channel 4 at Euro 2017.He has really grown into a strong pundit I remember the first few years he done it for the BBC where he was considered a clown and left because of it. Now I would rate him as one the best pundits we have.
I believe he is also a big fan of the woman’s game so that really helps.

I think it’s quite a strong line up here and I wouldn’t be surprised if more are added to it yet either such as Jordan Nobbs who is turning into a decent pundit as well.

Ian Wright just seems to show up on any channel showing football - great if you're a fan, no escape if you're not. Think he is one of the few who have appeared on BBC, ITV, BT and Sky.

Apparently, Jonathan Pearce and Mark Scott are no longer part of the BBC commentary team for the Women's Euros according the link below; Alastair Bruce-Ball and Seb Hutchinson will be replacing them

I thought Jonathan Pearce was their lead womens football commentator?

Pearce and Scott are in the press release to be doing TV commentary, but does not appear in the BBC Sport article. Not sure why the BBC Media Centre article splits Cowen and Sparks from the other commentators and BBC Sport fail to mention the others completely but it have seen it cause confusion in a few places now, you're not the first.

In both, Bruce-Ball and Hutchinson are only mentioned to be appearing on radio.

Quote:On the radio, Emma Saunders, Steve Crossman, Ben Haines and Juliette Ferrington will be following the England team, and Sparks, Cowen, Pien Meulensteen, Alistair Bruce-Ball and Seb Hutchinson will be commentating alongside Christiansen, Asante, Natasha Dowie, Stephen Craigan, Pat Nevin and Julien Laurens. (BBC Sport)

Radio and BBC Sounds

RE: UEFA Women's Euro 2022 - London Lite - 14-06-2022

Good to see Kelly Somers and Reshmin Chowdhury featuring. they've been prominent on The Women's Football Show and Kelly has been part of C4's Nations League coverage.
