My first impression is the BBC is got to be extremely pleased with what they've picked up, two of England's group games; two of Wales/Scotland/Ukraine's group games; the biggest other match in the group stage in Spain v. Germany; and the first pick semi-final - which given England's recent success is not unrealistically a much anticipated and much watched England match.
When was the last time BBC showed two of England's group matches in a major tournament, rather than ITV doing so? I can't recall it happenning off the top of my head going back until before 2010 so must be a while ago.

In the past it has happened also in 2002, 1998 (the last time the first and third games were on the BBC), 1990, and 1986. At the Euros it happened in 2000 (where the match against Germany was simulcast.) and 1992.
If England make the Quartar final it will be the first England quarter shown live on ITV since 2002 and the first ever to be shown exclusively on ITV as ‘2020’, 2018, 2006, 1996 and 1970 were exclusively on the BBC and 2002, 1990, 1986 and 1966 were shared.

Interesting to see the BBC placing all their money on England getting to the semi-finals. A risk, perhaps, but if it pays off for them it'll pay off big.

They'll be happy with the guaranteed group games though, especially having two games including the potential Eng v Wal/Sco clash. ITV will be happy to have the two more likely knock out games.
Also rare for the BBC to come out with the "best of the rest" clash in the group games with Spain v Germany - and on a Sunday night in primetime too.
Just looking quickly now at the fixtures and though most days it's two each there are a few when it's 3 on 1 side and 1 on the other. I think that happens three times for ITV and once for BBC over the first two matchdays, then with the final group games the BBC has 5 sets of matches compared to 3 for ITV, so if I'm working out that right it does mean an equal number of matches across the group stage. I do think for once though the BBC on paper at least comes out with the slightly better picks than ITV in the group stage.

I'd just pick Scottish, Irish, or non-British pundits and commentators for that one. That way they shouldn't be biased.

As mentioned, the Beeb had England vs Wales in Euro 2016, and ITV had England vs Scotland in the last Euros, and on both occasions they did perfectly fair and balanced coverage. Also, it's a bit insulting to the broadcasters to suggest they can't be impartial and professional, they certainly didn't hold back in saying England are performing poorly when they had in the past.
It's not like the new breed of pundits are any worse than the old days, in Giles Smith's book of his TV sport columns he reviews the coverage of Euro 96, and Brian Moore's commentary of England vs Switzerland, and says "It's one thing referring to England as 'us', quite another to refer to their opponents as 'them'". You'd never get that these days.
