GB News - aaron_scotland - 15-10-2021

I highly doubt Nigel would go out in public on his show unless the audience was mostly supporters of him anyway, so we shouldn't be surprised.

They probably bused them in!

Imagine if a BBC report, or the audience for Question Time, were picked like that. There would be uproar, and rightly so. These are basic journalistic duties but there again, I’d hardly call this outfit journalist - despite its name.

To be fair, it is exactly the point. It would be disingenuous to bus in a load of people not from Port Talbot and unlikely to visit a Port Talbot WMC just for the sake of "diversity".

The voices of those visiting working mens' clubs in Port Talbot are just as valid as the voices of those visiting a wine bar in Shoreditch (very likely to be diverse) or the brilliant (almost exclusively white female) workers in a womens' refuge in Aberdeen.

The GB News audience was reflective of a certain part of the country.

I fully support diversity but I think those people who discount the views of any audience because it's not "diverse" enough are intellectual frauds.

I don’t think anyone is discounting views, quite the opposite. What I was calling out was a basic lack of journalistic rubric: all sides get prominent hearing. Slapping yourself down in a pub and saying that’s representative of Port Talbot is well, at best, missing the rest of the residents…

It’s a difficult balancing act, and you can never really achieve a fully representative standard, but what amazes me about GB ‘News’ is that is doesn’t even seem to try.

Anyway, we could probably go around the pubs on this - so to speak - so I’ll just say that we probably have a difference of opinion here and thank you for your views.

But what if the purpose of hosting it there was to get the opinion of elderly white Welsh men? Their views are equal in importance to every other citizen of the country.

All other news organisations often select a sample of people from a target demographic to get a particular point of view. For example, if one channel does a round table with businesspeople discussing Brexit, COVID-19, etc, it's literally just a selection of businesspeople talking about the issues they face. They do not have someone from a political party arguing that they should be taxed more/less, regulated more/less, etc because the purpose of the piece is find out the views of business people.

Well, you could moan - what about the employees of those businesses? Why are those voices being excluded? Whine, whine, whine. It's because it's not about them - nothing more sinister or gammon than that.

Again, this is another example of this channel being judged by different standards editorially than to another. ISTR in addition the program contained Stephen Kinnock, the Labour MP (who in my opinion is future PM material). The program came from a town which has Labour MPs and AMs too.

It’s Nana with Liam now. I think it’s Nana’s slot on Friday not anyway.

GB News - TVViewer256 - 15-10-2021

No stings in or out of the break, instead a tribute graphic out of the break with no music and straight to the presenters.

Colin and Michelle presenting next, it's just been announced.

GB News - London Lite - 15-10-2021

No surprise that Colin is leading most of the 6pm hour. Michelle's delivery is not up for breaking news as she stumbled a cross to Amelia Harper in Southend.

Nana has caused quite the stir online today in her other gig as a panellist on Jeremy Vine - plying GBN’s agenda on another platform:

If you don’t like it, just delete it - no need to make a song and dance about it.
Warning issued for posting off topic material and displaying a churlish attitude when advised not to do so in future.
I see GBN defender David Whitfield laughably believes I’m being “churlish” with a fairly mild mannered reply, so I’m outta here - please delete my account.

GB News - TVViewer256 - 17-10-2021

News bulletins launch tomorrow, by all accounts.

I'm not sure how they'll take off - I think it would've made more sense just to have the show's anchor(s) doing a summary at the start of the show, like in GMB at the TOTH etc.
