Paticularly when he said he voted for brexit because of the "EU Army", something which anyone doing the smallest amount of research would have known was never going to happen- let alone a high profile BBC journalist who you'd expect to know how these things work.

Turns out the phrase 'no smoke without fire' was accurate when it came to all the stories about Andrew Neil & GB News. A presenter doesn't disappear without warning for 2 and a half months with no return date announced for no reason.

If GB News were to lose McCoy too, that would be a bit of a hammer blow. McCoy and Andrew Neil were two of their household names when they joined and gave the channel a bit of credibility through McCoy's Sky & BBC News stints and Neil's political interviews. If you remove them both, then the channel basically feels more like TalkRadio on TV (especially with some recent hires) and other than Farage viewers don't really seem to be tuning in for anything.

I know everyone and anyone gets linked with GMB but I wouldn't be shocked if Simon McCoy ends up there. GMB are still clearly looking for a presenter to take the Piers/right-wing role on there. Simon McCoy is a well-known face with personality, is currently doing a breakfast show, in comparison to some of the other GB News presenters he doesn't seem to have been quite so controversial or burnt bridges as spectacularly (bar his Brexit comment) and if anything his Brexit comments might help his cause as ITV might want him as a foil to Susanna. He'd provide personality and so satisfy those who want GMB as their entertainment hour without crossing the line Piers ended up doing.

I do think Simon McCoy being relatively low profile at GB News could mean there has been some damage limitation and I think should he leave sooner rather than later ultimately he could return to a mainstream role, even at the BBC. I said back in the Spring if he wasn't joining GB News that he'd be worth considering for GMB - and as that role is still open I do think that still stands should he be looking to leave.

Also being paired up with the impartial Kirsty Gallacher on Breakfast will help in that regard compared to when he was with Alex Phillips when he looked and acted uncomfortable around some of the things she was saying.

So, from a personal view of the channel...

I thought it would have a future should it's management team remain in place. However it seems that most of it's senior management has left, both prior to Andrew Neil's departure and with him too.

That leaves very in the little of people who know how to run a TV channel there, and it was evident with the return of graphical and editorial cut errors in the evening programming.

The next few days will be interesting. Will the channel take the Covid update live from a) the House of Commons, and b) the Press conference?

Given the graphical and technological errors in yesterday's evening programming, I can only surmise that those staff have left too.

This has gone terribly for Andrew Neil he was hoping to be the big name who everyone talked about on the channel but it ended up being nigel farage who is a far bigger name. Andrew Neil isn't as well known as he thinks he is

GB News - JayCasey - 14-09-2021

This morning, it made no sense that Tom Harwood's "briefing" started at 09:10...... who is running this shocking show of television abomination? I've not seen scheduling like this since the fanfare that was "Friendly TV"!!!!!!!

His departure has nothing to do with how 'big' a name he is, it's to do with the editorial changes to the channel which led to his departure as it becomes more populist.

Interesting to see their taking the press conference live from Downing Street. But then they cut away from it to go to weather at 1156.

Is "populist" really the right word? If anything they're doing the opposite by targeting a very specific audience.

Or GMB during Piers Morgans era

As I've said countless times, considering the headline segment on Neil's own show was "woke watch", I'm not sure how true the claims he dislikes the "populist" tone of the channel are, seeing as that really isn't much different to what the other presenters are doing. "Woke watch" is as much right-wing populism and dog whistling as the likes of what Farage comes out with. For people to act like he was some sort of moderate decrying the agenda of the channel when he was ranting against "woke lefties" on every show of his seems bizarre.

I think it's more likely he didn't like the negative publicity, incompetence and the shambles going on, and just uses the channel's agenda as a smokescreen.

Is the old breakfast bar where they're now hosting The Briefing & On The Money from?

I also think anyone leaving a controversial company and hoping to rejoin the market elsewhere knows that upon leaving it is best to distance yourself from the company as much as possible.

It’s still a breakfast bar, just with screens and frosted glass added.
