Surely it was the first BBC1 ident that couldn’t be left on air indefinitely, as it was the first that had a finite length, unlike the mechanical globes and the live generated COW.

I thought it looped fairly cleanly? (Or at least cleanly enough for an emergency situation)

I don't think the clock was even being used at closedown on BBC2 by the turn of century, at least not on network? Searching a few BBC2 closedowns from 2000/2001 on YouTube, the closing announcements are all made over an ident - those it seems Northern Ireland were still using the clock in 2001.

By 2001, about the only chance of seeing the clock on network BBC2 was on the odd occasion that Wimbledon had shunted the Six O'Clock News over to BBC2.

I agree with comments that the demise of the clock was a marketing/stylistic decision - it was simply seen as an outdated presentation device, similar to how static programme slides were largely phased out around the same time. The digital delay is frequently cited as being the reason, but if that was the case, how come BBC Radio still broadcasts the Greenwich Time Signal?

I’ve had a look, and it turns out you’re right, as someone has looped 15 minutes of it here…

Perhaps it’s coincidence, but any long play-outs I’ve ever seen of it, it generally fades out at a certain point - in fact the point at which it goes to the apology slide in the breakdown video you posted earlier.

Maybe they didn’t have an especially long loop of it available on a day-to-day basis. I’d be interested to know if anyone’s got insider knowledge.

Hearing that 'Lido' and 'Warehouse' are the new idents being added to the package.

Initially read this as "Lidl" and had the image of a camera panning around shoppers perusing the middle aisle, picking up some jump leads or a bonsai growing kit...

Lido would work well for summer.

Are these made by BBC Creative or outsourced? Presumably the ones in the nations were overseen by the same team.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - IanJRedman - 30-03-2022

The more I think about it, it's a real shame the idents were held back last October - this would have had a lot more of an impact if the entirety of BBC One's presentation had changed at the same time, as was clearly the intention. As it is, we've already had 80% of the new look for months, with a patchwork of repurposed old idents, which does make it feel a little less exciting.

I just hope the production values on these idents are better than Oneness, although they can't be much worse - even if the new idents themselves sound like an evolution of Oneness rather than a radical change.

I wonder if there would have been any mileage in using the lens in a range of different CGI environments as the idents? Basically like BBC Two, but with the lens instead of the curve.

I'll take a wild guess and say it's possibly BBC Creative. Would be nice if Superunion were involved.

Unless something has changed, there aren’t any in the nations. Thistle stated the additional ones were filmed in the south east of England.

Given the earlier discussion about regional representation, ‘lido’ is a curious choice - hardly a setting that’s equally represented across all nations and regions.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Brekkie - 30-03-2022

Individually no single ident will be - collectively though they should represent most.

And there is no single image or location that sums up a region - towns, cities and rural areas all have their own distinct features, but people should be able to appreciate those outside their immediate vicinity. And whilst I'd perhaps most associate a lido with the south coast there are noteable ones across the country too. I'm not going to moan because there isn't one down the end of my street, meaning I'm not represented.

Frankly as long as the idents look nice I don't care where they are filmed. I didn't care where the balloon idents were filmed - just that they looked stunning. Indeed most of the early ones at least were filmed in the country and on the coast, not in areas of high population - and I don't remember people moaning then. They celebrated the entire country without having to cover every inch of it.

I’m not looking forward to theses idents correct if I’m wrong but just sounds dull like oneness

What about waiting before disliking them first?

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Thames1985 - 30-03-2022

True but I’m just not a fan of same old live action something different would be nice
