No. No it isn’t.

Nick Smith presented both ITV Wales bulletins yesterday. I think he does reporting etc for several ITV regions. He did present a late bulletin a few weeks ago too but assume this is helping out if there is no-one available to present rather than him joining ITV Wales?

Ive seen Carl Edwards present the lunchtime Wales Today a few times but not sure if he is one of the main presenters like Lucy, Nick and Jennifer. BBC Wales seemed to have senior presenters in over Christmas, for example Lucy Owen presented on Boxing Day.

Peter Gillibrand is joining BBC Wales from Global later this month. He has gained a following and a few awards over the last 18 months or so for his work publicising and anlaysing Welsh COVID statitsics, so a good appointment.

He presents those generic feature reports which are typically shared across most ITV regions/sub-regions in England.

As soon as your local presenters say that the next report is from Nick Smith, you know it's going to be one of those shared items. Ditto when it's Kevin Ashford reporting. They're the only two, as far as I'm aware.

I can't stand those, pure puff with a local insert about how said national no story affects said region which is allowed to have 10 minutes of content from outside their editorial area. Luckily not shown in Wales, London, Granada, Border and UTV.

The worst ones are the "thinly (c.f. not-even-remotely) disguised" promos for some ITV entertainment programme or other.

If it's for, say, Britain's Got Talent, your own regional presenters might mention something to tenuously link it to your patch before/after the "report" is shown (e.g. a previous notable contestant from your area), but the package itself will likely be 100% generic.

To be fair, London managed to shoehorn Dancing on Ice yesterday by sending a reporter to do a live about the last day of the Natural History Museum ice rink by interviewing two DOI stars about the upcoming series.

But yes, the shoehorned plugs for ITV entertainment shows as filler on regional news are frustrating.

Thanks for explaining. I was just surprised he actually presented a bulletin on ITV Wales but I guess both occasions he presented it was near to Christmas and there may have been limited presenters available.

I think David Wood who used to be a reporter/newsreader at ITV Wales has presented on a few occasions since he moved from ITV Wales.

GWR sponsorship replaced by Transport for Wales on ITV Wales weather, not sure since when, but I'm assuming it came to an end same time as the Westcountry deal.

At one point, GWR was the weather sponsor for ITV Cymru Wales, ITV West Country, ITV Meridian and ITV London (during "LWT" franchise airtime only. The "Carlton" franchise airtime sponsor being Octopus Energy, who also sponsor ITV Central weather).

GWR must've seemed an odd one for viewers in most parts of Meridian's SE sub-region (apart from the very SW corner thereof, i.e. the Brighton area), where they were/are irrelevant. Ditto for viewers over on e.g. the Herts/Essex/Kent side of the ITV London region, as GWR only reaches the Paddington (i.e. west) end of the capital.

I'm sure that ITV Cymru Wales' weather sponsor changed to Transport for Wales a while back, even whilst West Country/Meridian/London (Weekends) still had GWR. More recently, they all simultaneously changed from GWR trains to Vailant boilers & heat pumps.

Another bit of the BBC bites the dust.

I think it was just after Christmas the sponsor on both ITV Westcountry and ITV Cymru Wales changed from GWR to TFW. It certainly hasn't been long. TFW certainly makes more sense for Wales since they cover all of Wales. GWR only run from Swansea-Newport in Wales itself. Also the Cardiff-Portsmouth Harbour train is operated by GWR which runs through quite a bit of the Meridian region plus there are services to Brighton.

Nick Smith presented the Saturday bulletin again on ITV Wales but didn't present Sundays bulletin. I assume he only presents if there isnt a presenter in Cardiff available.

Ellie Pitt has left ITV Wales to join Central. I thought she did a decent job at Wales, especially during the last Welsh election.

Thats a shame as she was an excellent presenter and often covered on Wales At Six when Jonathan or Andrea weren't presenting. Didn't she used to work at ITV Westcountry before she joined ITV Wales?
