GB News - LiamFitz28 - 08-09-2021 Why have GB News started showing repeats of their shows in mid-afternoon? It's stupid and considering this was 'relaunch week', their schedule is a mess! GB News - JK1985 - 08-09-2021 GB News is starting to do what ITV News Channel used to do, repeat news programmes at various times. ITV News Channel used to repeat the 5.30am Early Morning News twice from 6.00am - 7.00am seven days a week. They would also on a Saturday and Sunday repeat their 7.00am half hour news at 7.30am. And of course through the night, ITV News Channel repeated the ITV News at 10.30pm from 1.00am - 5.30am. It is cheap, and gives breathing space to the news channel staff to rehearse, fix technical issues and and experiment with new programmes. ITV did seemingly report themselves to Ofcom in 2005 for pre-recording a bulletin, but I don't know if they got fined or censured for it - https://www.theguardian.com/media/2005/apr/04/itv.tvnews Clearly times have changed since then because some ITV regions have a pre-recorded 6pm bulletin every day because the same presenters do more than one. As long as it's clear to the audience the content is repeated or recorded and it's not misleading or inaccurate, it would seem to be permissable. Of course the difference between what ITV News did (and all channels, such as when BBC News repeated Newsnight for a bit) and what's seemingly happening at GB News is that the repeats were only in off-peak slots where there was less chance of any big stories breaking, not the case in the middle of the afternoon. But I had a look on Twitter yesterday and did a search for GB News, and though there were plenty of replies to their tweets, I actually didn't see anyone actually mention they were showing repeats. Maybe nobody noticed. GB News - BBI45 - 08-09-2021 I know this isn't entirely presentation-related, but I can't not share this. https://twitter.com/tomhfh/status/1435601039164682240 https://twitter.com/tomhfh/status/1435604691539353601 GB News - RR - 08-09-2021 Steve Williams post_id=38430 time= user_id=1326 Wrote:ITV did seemingly report themselves to Ofcom in 2005 for pre-recording a bulletin, but I don't know if they got fined or censured for it - https://www.theguardian.com/media/2005/apr/04/itv.tvnewsI believe the existing position is that the only live requirement on ITV is for the national news to be live for the minimum amounts per the licence - there is no longer any requirement for the local news to be so. Any requirement is just on the public service broadcasters under their licences (3, 4, 5, and local stations) - any other channel has no requirement to broadcast news, live or not, and so has no issue with not having live news. Indeed there was a +1 news channel recently on the Sky EPG. Having said that, these aren't news bulletins anyway. GB News - JK1985 - 08-09-2021 If memory serves me right, when ITV News Channel repeated news programmes, they never had it mentioned on screen to state this was pre-recorded. Maybe my memory is wrong, but I never think they did. Does GB News have one to state it is a pre-record? From what I’ve seen online, they get the exact some guests who frequently rotate GMB/Jeremy Vine/TalkRadio etc. GB News - Col87 - 08-09-2021 thecorrector post_id=38475 time= user_id=1692 Wrote:Calvin Robinson and Andrew Doyle are having a public back-and-forth with Owen Jones this evening about guest selection:Owen is correct though it would be for nothing more than click bait and then trying to shot any left wing opinions down. The channel is just continuing to collapse slowly and I think it’s just a matter of time before Discovery pull the plug and stop funding it. Let’s be honest when the so called flagship presenter /face of the channel and chairman can’t be bothered with it and stops after 2 weeks with no sign of him coming back and resorting to right wing failed politicians like Farrage and Fox and crazed conspiracy theorists like Oliver Dolan and that bloke the Sun where even happy to get rid of ( forgot his name now ) then the channel really is in trouble. They is clearly no leadership it not been on air 4 months and it already has had several reshuffles repeats airing during what for a news channel is it’s prime slots and struggling to get any decent guests just shows what a farce of a channel it is. When even it target audience is turning off and nobody what to advertise on it then you really just have to ask how longer will it last. The so called Savour in Farrage won’t stay long either he is using them to try stay relevant as soon as something better comes along he will be off again with his pockets full of the limited budget the channel has. Let’s be honest the likes of McCoy and Stewart are only though for one last pay day they could very easily retire now if they wanted to and both probably know their dignity has all but gone by been associated with the channel. It will be gone by next Easter and wouldn’t surprise me if it quietly closes down round Christmas when even the 3 viewers it got will be busy to even notice. GB News - London Lite - 08-09-2021 The problem for GB News is the same for any challenger brand is that British viewers to news content are stuck in their old ways, most watch the main bulletins on BBC One and ITV, while BBC News and Sky News have a smaller audience. GB News reminds me of RT UK which recently axed their UK bulletins to take the international feed from Moscow instead as they were also perceived as being different from the norm, but bar the die hard, it didn't make any headway into the British psyche. |
