Does anyone know when the point of no return comes for GB News and they do have to end the channel? I read that GB News is apparently funded for three years, but will it come to a point when the channel will have to close? Financially speaking, even though they are funded for three years, will it come down to money if it indeed closes by the end of the year. Thanks.

If the owners want out I suspect they'd try to find a buyer first.
Closing down the channel and unwinding contracts is potentially quite messy. And that's before you get to how it could sustain its output as people start to leave.

If it was to sell, there's only one company that would be aligned with GB News's values and that's News UK, but they scrapped their own channel after realising that they'd have to subsidise it with £40m of losses per year.

I guess with Andrew Neil now looking highly unlikely to return, an extra hour of Farage is probably the most likely outcome.

I don't think Andrew Neil is coming back according to a paywalled article in the Times this morning.
Will this be the straw that breaks GBN's back or will it install an "us against the world" defiance in the staff, presenters, and management?
I really wanted this channel to work and, in comparison to the channel's haters on this thread who have jumped on every error, I'm big enough to admit that I've probably overlooked a couple of things that I would have criticised with other broadcasters.
However, the content is lacking, it's not visually interesting, and it's squandering its potential to being unmissable by not thoroughly questioning those guests whose views are not in the so-called "Overton window". You can find plenty of that type of content on YouTube and I can watch an interview with someone with non-mainstream views for ages transfixed by the conversation.
What a wasted opportunity.

You've answered your own question. The channel is funded for three years. Of the investors only Discovery might have thought there was a possibility of profitability; for the rest it's just a bit of fun, like owning a football club or yachting team.
There are three big investors: Discovery (£20m), Legatum (£20m, https://news.sky.com/story/donor-to-brexit-backing-think-tank-in-talks-to-buy-gb-news-stake-12172737), and Paul Marshall (£10m, https://news.sky.com/story/city-tycoon-marshall-tunes-into-60m-gb-news-fundraising-12176428). (Yes that adds up to £50m; either GB News actually has £50m of funding not the originally-announced target of £60m, or someone stumped up another £10m).
There's a pretty obvious common theme with the last two investors...

The thing I don’t understand, from Neil’s perspective, is why he’d let this speculation drag on all summer and now beyond his long-mooted date of return. He obviously loves a media circus, and always has done, but I just don’t see how this benefits his personal brand in any way. Staying? Then come out and defend GBN. Leaving? Announce your departure, be done with it and focus on your other interests.
As for whether Neil’s departure would trigger a mass exodus, I’m not entirely convinced as his GBN colleagues have now nailed their colours pretty firmly to the last and will probably have to go along for the ride.
Take Ellie Costello, for example - who worked at the BBC for a couple of years, appearing sporadically on Victoria Derbyshire. She’s getting far more screen time than she ever did at the Beeb, taking advantage of the chaos over the summer to become a regular anchor despite her very young age. As part of that, she’s had to sit alongside the likes of Calvin Robinson while he spouts Covid conspiracies - and because she doesn’t have much of a personal brand to fall back on, that will become hers. In other words, her career options outside GBN will have narrowed considerably.
As for the production team, there are so many staff who moved from the likes of talkRADIO who will be perfectly happy with the direction the station is going in - and you’ve even got the likes of Mark White signing up (presumably for a big pre-retirement payday) who had the benefit of joining GBN with his eyes wide open. Most will stay, even though the “charter” Neil had them all sign when they joined now isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

Assuming he knew throughout whether he was returning - for all we know the decision hasn't, or hadn't until recently, been finalized, by which ever party is making it.
On a different issue, his name, connexions, and resignation from the BBC, was good for publicity at the start - see the number of articles interviewing or quoting him before or at launch. He is the one person there who is reported on by the (former) broadsheet press - he has been in the Independent, Guardian, Telegraph, Times, and FT the last couple of days.
