W to go free-to-air - This is UTV - 21-03-2022

W is also moving EPG on Sky to 132. (On screen graphic advising of this)
Are UKTV losing the nice and high valued 109 slot by no longer being in Sky's sub club?

Hey, at least Sky can move Sky Max to 109.

That, or launch another Sky branded channel.

Gurl, I think it is.

This is pretty much the long term plan UKTV have had for a while now with how they've managed Freeview channel trading rules by buying CCXTV and replacing it. W's been making up the void Really and Home have left for a while now

That logo is tacky though

Not sure about the logo, but it does symbolically represent the change from a classy, premium pay-TV channel to a light hearted free-to-air channel. I would've probably rebranded the channel under a new name.
The minute I saw those clashing fonts I was grinning

I will say the logo looks better within the presentation, because it does not look good outside of it.

God, the logo and presentation was about the only thing W had going for it. That is just ugly.

W to go free-to-air - CATV - 21-03-2022

Is UKTV launching a channel called Woolworths?

Alibi (a UKTV premium channel) is on Sky 132 wonder if the two channels are just switching.

I believe the font is Heading Now, which comes in 160 weights, from thin to wide

The new logo just reminds me of the earlier days of widescreen TV, and people stretching 4:3 to fit.

I agree - it's a downgrade from the current diamond. But, I think it sits well alongside Gold, whose ribbon symbol always makes me think it should be on a pack of crisps or toilet papers than on TV. The two of them made a nice, grocery-themed pair Tongue

W to go free-to-air - London Lite - 21-03-2022

I fear the DOG will be a large transparent 'w' taking up a quarter of the screen compared to the clean diamond W used now.

It makes me think of what a 2022 logo of their retail park spin off Big W would be.

Yes, knew I recognised the logo from somewhere

The Irish version of W is now free to air on satellite via Astra 2G, 11082 H, 22000, DVB-S QPSK, FEC 5/6. UK version still encrypted.

One thing this new logo should help with is situations like this where it gets squashed into awkward small areas like on Sky Go which currently features this ugliness:

I also don't think the current logo would be particularly legible on my Manhattan Freeview box.
