Jersey Blockade - technologist - 06-05-2021 As I think the major fibre to the CI is in the power cables.... it is unlikely that they will be broken.. And there are a few of them ... Also a lot of BT M&B network is not on BT wholesale ..... so if that fails broadcast8ng continues.. In the days of energies /C&W having the BBC connectivity contract the medium sized sites off core 10G fibre Were always tried to be provisioned with BT wholesale as one Path and C&W in the other. And I dont think that Arqiva use much BT in their C&M to transmitter circuits.. And as has been proved a ISDN can easily be replaced by domestic broadband. Or two . Jersey Blockade - JAS84 - 06-05-2021 The blockade has ended. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57016222 Jersey Blockade - Roger Darthwell - 06-05-2021 JAS84 post_id=11137 time=1620336100 user_id=881 Wrote:The blockade has ended.I am so relieved of this! What a nice way to end the day, I can sleep peacefully tonight! Jersey Blockade - Steve in Pudsey - 06-05-2021 Radio York found out the limitations of BT's resilience when York exchange flooded a few winters ago. Seem to recall that they were broadcasting out of Hull for several days whilst trying to cover said floods, and I believe there were several innovative forms of RBS pressed into service at various transmitters, including feeding analogue services from a DAB receiver and the web stream at points. Is anyone still using ISDN now? AIUI it's being phased out along with Kilostream over the next few years? I know ipDTL has been a particular favourite of radio talent to jock from home, and the RCS Zetta and PlayoutONE automation systems now even have the tech built into their web-based remote apps. And of course satellite is now virtually redundant for moving network programmes around the country - although I understand it's increasingly the reverse situation now at Global and Bauer and the opt out show is sent to HQ, rather than the network feed simply passing through the regional sites for 21 hours a day. Slightly O/T but I remember GWR Group being the first to ditch satellite for IP for their network feed as far back as the mid 2000s with a system I believe Global still use, but the cost savings were so great the IP system paid for itself within two years. |
