No guests (or Alex Scott) but they've been rushing through the sports at a pace - only Lauren Price has got more than five minutes probably.
It was a bit of an odd morning as nothing was happening so all they had were the highlights from overnight, I saw the velodrome races that the Kenny's took part in about 3 times this morning.

Always that lull before the closing ceremony but the BBC needed it to catch up on the overnight cycling.

Surprised they've never moved the Opening Ceremony to Thursdays considering traditionally that was NBC's "must see" night, and an argument to move the closing to Monday to give a full day of competition on the Sunday. Just making one of those changes would end the need to start events before the Opening Ceremony.

Funnily enough, that's exactly what they are doing in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games next year.

Now there are all these extra sports, I’m surprised they haven’t extended the event a bit, it might make some of the days a bit less hectic, particularly so the end of the swimming doesn’t have to overlap with the start of the athletics in the middle.

Some sad news to end the games, today is the last day in the job for BBC Olympics reporter Nick Hope after his job ceases to exsist. His fellow Olympic reporter had left before the games for a new role in BBC Scotland News. Nick has done such fine work reporting on a wide variety of stories and dathletes during these games and many years before and it is a real dissappointment that a job that helps shine a light on many athletes and sports that are often forgotten outside of the Olympics. A sad reality of the BBC cuts.
If anything that is exactly the sort of role the BBC should be protecting. He's made some further posts which are quite interesting but it's always difficult to work your notice - can't imagine having to do it live on TV. I suspect he may be able to cover future games on a freelance basis but two weeks work every couple of years doesn't pay the bills.

Couldn't have put it better. Nick commented or retweeted somebody last week who said that almost every time an unknown British athlete had won a medal, there was a piece from the BBC Sport website archive by Nick (or David McDaid who has moved to BBC Scotland) profiling them which shows how good the work they did was. Re returning as a freelancer, Ollie Williams who I think had a similar brief before leaving in 2014ish, is now running a radio station in the Northwest Territory, Canada and returned to the BBC team in 2016 and 2018.

Changing tack slightly, a word of praise for this rather majestic victory ceremony theme which has been an often emotional background to the games,

I thought the closing ceremony was supposed to be the fun one. This is a struggle.

I assume the Paris segment might be done in Paris itself rather than the stadium for obvious reasons.

This is a real struggle. It's even more lifeless than the opening ceremony

The BBC have got another hour and 20 minutes in the schedule for the Closing Ceremony, and we are already at the Flag Handover Ceremony.

Looks like we'll be getting a repeat of Garden Rescue, then Wink

Or might Clare stay and stall time for a bit.

Though, we are already into the Paris segment, all that is left is the flame extinguishment, Tokyo 2020 could be wrapped up by 2pm our time

Clare seemed to be tied up knots there avoiding mentioning that the Paralympics is on Channel 4. I thought they usually promoted them.

After mentioning that Paris 2024 will be across the BBC, she said that the Paralympics will be across the BBC on “‘the radio, online on the BBC Sport website.. and on the news”

Tokyo Olympics 2020 on BBC and Eurosport - Tom - 08-08-2021

A long list of credits at the end of the coverage and yes I agree Claire did seem to try and avoid the fact that the Paralympics is on Channel 4.

They got me with the athletes arriving home.

Must say credit to the BBC Sport production team who with increasingly limited resources from one games to the next have done an excellent job broadcasting what they were able to show. Eurosport's limited studio coverage has highlighted just how good the BBC's coverage is - and though a real shame they couldn't offer the depth of coverage they have done previously what they have done was excellent.
