I would much rather prefer it was used for significant events and meant something, without the need for GBeebies style jingoism.Agreed completely on this point. There's the argument to be made too about how a lot of the public nowadays sees BBC as quite old-fashioned, and going back to old traditions such as playing the national anthem every day certainly doesn't make sense when they're trying to build up a new, fresh modern image for their channels in a digital era. BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - harshy - 16-01-2022 Sorry I’ll apologise for not reading this huge thread wasn’t there meant to be a new look for bbc one not oneness after Christmas ? BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Blubatt - 16-01-2022 So...how long do you think these new idents will be in place when they finally sir then? BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Rob - 16-01-2022 All posts regarding the license fee reports have been moved to the thread started here. Apologies for not doing it sooner, I've been at work this afternoon. The new look is apparently due to launch at some point later this year, but there's not yet been any official confirmation of exactly when that's happening. Some forum members were hoping it'd happen on January 1st. Only the people working at the BBC knows for now, but rest assured that there may be further announcements for the general public down the line. Yes, we are all aware that none of us want to put up with another year of Oneness, but sometimes things may not go according to plan at the last minute. Please be patient. BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - LoganStuff - 16-01-2022 Noticed something a bit odd a few minutes ago during the continuity before Match of the Day. At the end of the BBC Sounds promo, the BBC logo seems to animate a bit too early, leaving it in that odd stretched out state for a couple of seconds. Even more interesting is how the gradient in the background is still moving, for some reason? I think the animations are played in separately to the backgrounds so that it all works together. BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Stanley Matravers - 17-01-2022 The website for the new "We Are England" programme (the replacement for Inside Out) lists the first Newcastle-produced edition as being shown on "BBC One HD, BBC One North East & Cumbria HD, and BBC One North East & Cumbria only". So, unsurprisingly, BBC One HD being region-capable on any/all linear television platforms won't be happening in time for the new programme's launch next week. After about a decade or so of wondering whether English Regions would *ever* sodding well come to BBC One HD, it's funny that now we're so close to it finally actually happening it's even harder to be patient. In a more discreet way, I associate the Lilli with the BBC (and by extension the UK!), perhaps I should start petitioning for it to be played at the top of the hour on all broadcasts. /s BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - NYCsporty - 18-01-2022 LoganStuff post_id=63287 time= user_id=1524 Wrote:It wouldn't be that unprecedented if it happens. Here in the States, Gray-owned TV stations, despite being 24/7 air the national anthem in the morning, before the morning news.... https://www.fox19.com/2021/03/03/fox-now-end-each-broadcast-day-with-national-anthem/Matrix post_id=63265 time= user_id=797 Wrote:it feels a little awkward to play a national anthem every day for no apparent reason, certainly now we no longer have closedowns on network. BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - James2001 - 18-01-2022 America's nuts for things like the flag and anthem in a way we aren't in the UK. You see flags hanging from virtually everywhere in the US, even schools and supermarkets, you don't over here, not to mention making kids do the pledge of alleigance every day which I think most western countries consider nuts, if not sinister. A few people have flags flying in gardens (especially post-brexit) and some government buildings do, but that's about it, you certainly don't have them flying from the roof of Tesco. There's only a handful of right-wing hyper-nationalists who want the national anthem back on TV over here. I live in Canada and I don’t see every channel implementing the national anthem at night. BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Brekkie - 19-01-2022 I know BBC Wales used to air Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau at closedown but did S4C? Were ITV franchises under pressure to play the national anthem when they launched? I think there are two issues really. First and foremost even with a banger of a national anthem (and God Save the Queen would likely get Nulpoints at the Eurovision Anthem Contest) it makes for pretty dull viewing. Secondly rightly or wrongly it would be seen as political should the BBC reinstate it - especially as it has been made political by certain politicians in recent years. Then again though you could already say a corporation which effectively closes all it's channels when a senior royal dies has already nailed it's flag to one side of the monarchy debate. It looks like most did... and you have the strange fact most of them ran it over photos and footage of the queen rather than just the ident as the BBC did- so they were actually more formal in that sense. I know Granada never did it though, which was controversial at the time. I don't think Yorkshire or Thames did either going by any of their closedowns I've seen (or if they did, they'd stopped by the time VCRs were widespread). Central didn't either (though ATV before them did), but TVS and TSW continued after 1982. Both Scottish and Grampian did, which would have the SNP fuming these days (especially as the latter did it over footage of the saltire). |
