GB News - RhysJR - 22-08-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=35458 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:When they say they've beaten Sky News 'peak audience ratings' is that they've beaten Sky at its peak, which is presumably at breakfast.... or they've beaten it during 'peak time? It's says in the small print at the bottom of the graphic: Source: BARB Adults 1800-2300 20/7/21, 27/7/21, 5/8/21, 9/8/21, 11/8/21 So I'd read that as they had a bigger peak figure during the evening schedule on those dates. What we have GBN doing here is banging the drum - on a completely arbitrary anniversary - to the converted, hoping their social media protectorate will retweet the hell out of those tweets and continue fighting the culture war on their behalf with misplaced “isn’t this such a massive enterprise/the best thing since sliced bread/owning the libs” arguments. GB News - Joe - 22-08-2021 I don’t think people here understand the point of those social media graphics on the previous page. They’re not meant to stand up to scrutiny. Of course they’re easily challenged or even ‘wrong’. It doesn’t matter. They’re designed to create a buzz, create an image of strength and of an underdog, and reinforce the image of being a ‘disrupter’ in the media space. What you or I say in response on a forum like this is neither here nor there. GB News - James2001 - 22-08-2021 Funny how they can claim to be both an "underdog" and the voice of the majority at the same time. GB News - adamiow - 22-08-2021 Interesting use of the Mobius loop/recycling icon (♻) instead of retweet/share icon (?) on those tweets! GB News - Omnipresent - 22-08-2021 Commercial radio groups always pick the most favourable metric (reach, audience share, listening hours) when trumpeting their latest audience figures. I think in the commercial sector audience share is seen as the most important measure for advertisers. The BBC tends to focus more on reach. Ratings comparisons with BBC News and Sky News are largely irrelevant - in both journalism and production values GB News is nowhere close. It is also has to be said it feels like GB News has been on air a lot longer than 10 weeks. GB News - Inspector Sands - 22-08-2021 all new Phil post_id=35464 time= user_id=865 Wrote:Which is what I said above, GBN can have it both ways.Quote:That's the difference between rolling news and personality led opinion programming though, can't really compare them when it comes to how long people watch.I’m sure you’d be comparing them if the numbers were the other way round. Figures good then the two formats are comparable Figures bad then the two formats are not comparable Not to say that it's just GBN that selectively used audience figures. Radio stations regularly quote either quarter on quarter or year on year depending on what's better sounding. And then there's the use of growth of audience instead of actual audience - Talk Radio use that a lot. GB News - Brekkie - 22-08-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=35458 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:Also what does 'watch time' mean? I'm not saying the figure is incorrect but it's based on a metric I don't think I've heard of. Thing is that they're comparing their comment discussion based output with the rolling news output of the others. Of course if the figures weren't so good that would be the excuse. It's a metric I've never seen used when it comes to discussing ratings. Presumably it is how long those who do watch actually watch on average, but 10,000 watching for an hour isn't better than 100,000 watching for 50 minutes. GB News - Inspector Sands - 22-08-2021 Omnipresent post_id=35478 time= user_id=858 Wrote:It is also has to be said it feels like GB News has been on air a lot longer than 10 weeks. It does feel a lot longer, it's racked up more discussion here than some news outlets get in 10 years! Of course any ratings of levels of social media engagement also include those who watched for the bad bits too. I wonder how many watching the first week or two were doing so because of how bad it was rather than because they were actively interested? GB News - James2001 - 22-08-2021 I think that's still the reason many people are watching and engaging with them. GB News - Newsdog - 22-08-2021 Considering the lack of news most days broadcast by this channel it shouldn’t be compared to Sky News/BBC News channel. At the most it is a poor quality version of Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show. GB News - JK1985 - 22-08-2021 Mark on a long monologue about their 10th week anniversary, and it is pathetic. They're making such a big deal of this it almost makes you think they don't expect to reach any genuine major milestones. GB News - JK1985 - 22-08-2021 Could someone tell Mark Dolan to stop holding the autocue remote control when he points and waves his hands during the opening of the programme. GB News - JK1985 - 22-08-2021 Have you noticed GB News anchors are using the term "sleepy Joe Biden" quite a bit - utterly disgraceful to portray the 46th President of the United States with that term. I am shocked at the current pundit speaking, whilst wearing a horrible shirt, who actually said Biden needs to be "taken out" and then suddenly realised what he said, with Mark trying to get him to clarify his remark. |
