Probably been mentioned already but how is the games being covered in Russia? Especially considering there isn’t an official Russian team? Do they play out the Olympic anthem for example, and acknowledge the ban?

Just highlights how poor the BBC deal is compared to France who were in the same situation holding the 2018/20 rights and how they blinked first and were willing to accept sub standard coverage. Even if the threat to sell the rights to ITV for 2022/24 was real they'd have been better off letting them take the flack for one cycle rather than diminish their own coverage for two cycles and ensure Discovery had no rights at all for 2018/20, something they were clearly desperate to avoid.

France has a worse deal in 2024 through with a 200 hours limit on what can be shown. The BBC does not have a time limit on the content they can show either this time or 2024.

[Hope BBC News HD does move to the BBC HD mux as I live in one of the areas which only gets BBC News in SD at the moment]
Also realised I can keep an eye on the "opposite" channel to the one I'm watching on TV by playing it in iPlayer on an old iPad I kept. Proving very useful though I forgot to do it yesterday -- never occurred to me BBC1 wouldn't show all the athletics. They could've just taken 15 minutes off of Jason's show to show all the races in full.

Jason’s show seems to be a strict time limit - it never starts late no matter how much needs to be caught up on. It also has a strict no swimming or Athletics rule.

Looked for the deal with France TV and Discovery and seems this year is not covered by that. The announcments and articles from the time say that France TV sublet rights for 2022 and 2024. There is no mention of any time or stream limit on France TV's agreemnet. To answer @JT95 's question, the below press release is around 19 months after Paris was elected host.

The disadvantage of the lack of a BBC Two Scotland, especially as there’s no BBC Scotland channel in HD until 7pm on Freeview. Best decision in the circumstances I suppose (except perhaps putting out Politics Scotland on BBC2 UK-wide, replacing some lifestyle programmes).

Hopefully the coverage being an issue across Europe will focus the minds of both the IOC and EBU next time around and perhaps the summer games of the likely next rights cycle being in LA and Brisbane will make them less attractive to the streaming market.

A few graphics on BBC One Scotland, then crashed out. Announcer stated that coverage continues on BBC Scotland channel, with Freeview 9 mentioned (but not other platforms). BBC Scotland now carrying BBC One coverage without the usual BBC Scotland DOG.
