GB News - DeMarkay - 16-08-2021

Any technical issues to report?

GB News - Londoner - 16-08-2021

Guido has a possible explanation for the lousy set on launch-day:

It's rare for me to say this, but that might just be the truest thing Guido has ever written.

GB News - soupie - 16-08-2021

Probably is true. But no one made them launch when they launched. They’ve improved lots, but many viewers will have made their mind up based on the actual launch

GB News - Jon - 16-08-2021

It sounds like it might be half true, but I think a lot of the early issues were probably down to poor training and people merely getting used to using the kit on the job. And a lack of knowhow where it came to things like lighting. So it’s probably a case that it caused one or two issues and someone is using it as an excuse for everything.

They clearly don't know what's happening as one day he's resigned/resigning and the next he's eager to return.

No, Andrew will be briefing this to friendly journalists. Particularly if he’s unhappy - that’s just how it works

100%. And shipping a set from abroad rather than buying something made in the UK, not exactly “Great British”…

GB News - Brekkie - 16-08-2021

You'd think it's the sort of thing they'd mention - no need to make a big deal of it but they said from the start that certain parts of the set weren't ready so it's surprising not a single reference was made to it at the time if that's the case.

I'm assuming GB News are finding themselves woefully out of their depth with a major international story dominating headlines and no foreign correspondents of their own who have been reporting on the situation for decades.

GB News - bfgarmy - 16-08-2021

Indeed given how Afghanistan has been the main story on nearly every broadcaster and news website for the last day or two and GB News said it would not particularly cover international news I'd be fascinated to know what stories they are covering instead. Maybe 'taking the knee discussion 287'.

GB News - Brekkie - 16-08-2021

Just dipping in it seems Colin Brazier has it in for the lottery (I guess supposed pro-British GB News finds Olympic success too "woke" for them). Farage seems to be revelling in Joe Biden's huge misstep but whether he's acknowledging the role Donald Trump played in beginning the process I don't know, but a clear conflict of interest there, just as there would be if Alastair Campbell was presenting GMB at the moment given when British troops were first sent to take on the Taliban.

Tweets like this from one of Sky’s many producers completely miss the point re GBN. It’s not purporting to be an international news channel. There’s been plenty of discussion of the issues inc Biden’s missteps, without the need to have a reporter standing in Kabul.

GB News - Brekkie - 16-08-2021

It's no substitute for reporting from the ground from the people at the centre of it. These kind of stories highlight the difference between real journalists and desk churnalists - and GB News and others rely far too much on people with an opinion of a situation rather than with experience of a situation.

GBN is not attempting to do the Stuart Ramsey thing and doesn’t pretend to be that sort of news channel. Viewers know where to go to get that.

Yes, it would be a bit like comparing Jeremy Vine (on Channel 5) with BBC News at Ten.
