To me it seems like he's trying too hard to sound like a 'news anchor' when he should really just be trying to be natural. My thoughts exactly. When he's actually giving his opinion on something, there's potential there, but he simply can't play it straight and it shows in his delivery. Notice "To the Point" was also a programme name down under too. I didn't see the coverage because I can't take Wootton without having consumed alcohol beforehand but I do have a question... It's great that they had a scientist on to debate but did they have an expert on the other side to present the evidence of the hysteria/scaremongering? I'm wondering where Dan or Nigel would have gotten the information to lead them to their views. They aren't experts in the matter so if they are to cover it properly, they need proper, qualified people to present the matter from both sides. GB News - gman - 10-08-2021 So after my last post, I switched to the channel just for a look and Dewbs & Co was on. Now, accents - be they regional or "foreign" - do not bother me in the slightest (I have one myself!) but when I hear a presenter that I would assume wants to project a professional and polished image say "We was talking during the break and...", it really bugs me. It would appear that Dewbs is one of the people that thinks the verb "to be" isn't conjugated! I was, you was, we was, they was. My own grammar isn't perfect (I've probably made several mistakes in this post!) but I ain't on TV! I saw it and thought it was reasonably balanced echoing David Whitfield's post. But I am actually old enough to remember the warnings in 1989 - it took up 2 of my GCSE Geography lessons at the time and scared me and most of my classmates witless. Although the warning in 1989 wasn't delivered by the IPCC as in this case, the media should ask, as they occasionally do with COVID infection rates, why the experts whose opinions affect political policy and our daily lives as a result get it often very wrong. To do so doesn't mean that a station is denying climate change or the dangers of COVID. If Sky or BBC do it, it's hard nosed journalism to be applauded. Apparently that's not so for GB News. Interested to see what the new shows are like but I truly don't think the channel will find its feet as a news channel until it has hourly and half hourly bulletins and the occasional OB interview with a PA or Reuters correspondent on the ground instead of another talking head on a Zoom call. GB News - Gusan - 10-08-2021 I've noticed on Michelle Dewberry's promo she changes her accent within two words. She says the "Co." in Dewbs & Co. in a standard English accent then two words later the same vowel in "show" in her Hull accent. I don't want to have a go at her, it's just something I couldn't help noticing GB News - Fluffy Bunny Feet - 10-08-2021 Gusan post_id=33602 time= user_id=1644 Wrote:I've noticed on Michelle Dewberry's promo she changes her accent within two words. That's when 'ull folk want to sound posh - and before I'm criticised for it, that's what they tell me. GB News - London Lite - 11-08-2021 It looks like they moved the guest chair position this morning at the desk studio which looks slightly better as the guest looked cramped to the side of the desk before.

The words are right there for a better programme name, but they went with the awkward, hard-to-say option. If only they'd designed the desk for a guest... Every single iteration of this channel at a desk so far has the guest 'floating' some distance away from the desk. It just looks slightly awkward for them. Then again a hotel check-in desk isn't meant for guests to sit around and talk. She has admitted to putting on 'her telephone voice' when presenting on air. Frankly I think it makes her come across as void of any personality. |
