That purple and green BBC logo!?!

BBC Three - Brekkie - 21-01-2022

Clearly not learnt the lessons of the BBC2 rebrand of 15 years or so ago - garish colours rarely work as on screen branding elements. I think it's a huge mistake really not to carry the tricon over to the channel.

BBC Three - Joe - 21-01-2022

I’m in the target audience, I disagree with you on both points. It looks great.

BBC Three - Ash101 - 21-01-2022

Agree - I think a 'glow up' was needed for the (re)launch of the TV channel. Odd language across it all though, not mentioning 'back' on TV. Even if the current target audience didn't watch the old channel, they must've been aware of it/the closure?

I think they're trying to create a separation between Classic BBC Three (2003-Jan 2016) and new BBC Three (2016+). They aren't bringing back BBC Three, they're extending the online version to TV.

"Back" also brings up again the decision to take it off TV in the first place, which they've now acknowledged was somewhat premature.

BBC Three - Joe - 21-01-2022

It's also less exciting… a return to the old is not always a good thing. See, for instance, the Apprentice advertising this year…

Much better to say 'look, something cool and brand new.'

The only event that will happened maybe is the end of BBC Three block on BBC One, as all BBC3 block programming will be transferred to relaunched channel.

BBC Three - UTVLifer - 21-01-2022

I'm still surprised that they are seemingly getting rid of the tricon, given how that has been BBC Three's 'thing' from a pres POV for the last 5 years

Similar to BBC Two and the 2's/Curve and BBC Four and the four squares in the idents

Still haven't updated the old BBC logos though! BBC Three sticks out like a sore thumb.

Genome still has the old logos too, for example:

Interesting new graphics on the BBC Three youtube channel, including the brand new iPlayer logo and the new Three logo. Not much new stuff.

There's supposed to be Winter Olympics coverage on that night, seemingly 8-9pm: https://www.televisual.com/news/bbc-unveils-winter-olympics-plans/

That was the final version of the schedule, so it's not changing unless anything unforeseen happens. There's only the opening ceremony on the Friday, so I don't think there'd be anything to add to the BBC Two highlights anyway.

Will have to wait and see but I do wonder if showing a full series "box set" might be a regular Friday night thing on the channel.
