The BBC Three Thread - Ballyboy - 23-05-2021 i wonder if 60 seconds gets reithed? The BBC Three Thread - Brekkie - 23-05-2021 I'm doubting 60 Seconds will return either. Interesting point about whether they can claim a UKTV number or not now it is owned solely by BBC Studios. I guess a transaction between the two would need to take place. It is the obvious solution, though I suspect C4 wouldn't mind another knock down the EPG which gives them 47 back (as Film4+1 is currently on 46) - although of course I'm sure there is a deal to be done with Sky to swap with Challenge if they really wanted it. A lot of people suspect that there'll be an hourly Radio 1's 'Newsbeat' programme. I wouldn't be that surprised if the BBC were lazy enough to stick in Newsround. The BBC Three Thread - Hybrid - 24-05-2021 BBC Three's demographic barely get their news from TV anymore so I doubt it'll return but they could revive it online in a similar format to what ITV News are doing with The Rundown. The BBC Three Thread - Joe - 24-05-2021 Seems an odd line of reason. Not many people in my town shop at Asda because there isn’t one. Doesn’t mean they wouldn’t shop there if there was. If the point of the channel is to attract viewers, sticking a quick news bulletin in between shows would be quite a logical thing to do. The BBC Three Thread - Brekkie - 24-05-2021 Will be interesting to see how much programming on BBC3 will be advertised as being on BBC3 when it does return considering the vast majority of trailers now on BBC1 and BBC2 seem to be for iPlayer. So 6-12 year olds are fine with Newsround, despite the fact it's more likely they'll be watching on iPlayer, yet 15-24 year olds a PSB broadcaster shouldn't bother with? Right... I, am a 29 y.o. myself, within BBC Three's target demographic. The news is very important to me, and I make sure to tune into the BBC News at Ten or BBC News Channel every night. 5 years ago, when BBC Three was still on linear, I was always attentive towards the 60 seconds bulletin. The news they show is definitely suitable, and I'm sure it is worthy enough to be on television (again.) The BBC Three Thread - Roger Darthwell - 24-06-2021 BBC Three's relaunch has come under scrutiny by Ofcom, they now believe that the channel's return will give an unfair advantage over rival broadcasters https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2021/06/24/bbc-three-relaunch-comes-under-ofcom-scrutiny/ The BBC Three Thread - Roger Darthwell - 24-06-2021 And apparently it seems that Channel 4 of all broadcasters seems to be against: ''Channel 4, the only broadcaster to respond, said the move of BBC Three to online had been a positive step it testing and shaping viewer behaviour alongside a broader shift away from linear to on demand viewing. “It is not clear how the relaunch of BBC Three as a linear channel will help the BBC address the market dynamic of “the acceleration of changes in viewing trends” it uses as a justification for the launch – it used the same justification for closing BBC Three in 2015.'' Well they're not exactly wrong in what they've said? Although I suppose it can probably be argued there isn't a need to take all viewing online & it's in the interested of all PSBs (and all channels for that matter) for their to be an appetite for linear channel viewing. I'm surprised ITV didn't respond, considering they've got ITV2 & ITVBe who would be targeting a similar audience. The BBC Three Thread - Blubatt - 24-06-2021 I think that BBC Three as a Linear channel coming back will be good at giving people outside of the remits that CBBC and BBC One something, anything, to watch. However, I do see a lot of uphill battles with this renewed service. Chiefly, providing a service young people would watch, either on iPlayer or on Linear Television. The BBC has a terrible track record of dealing with the 'Youth' audience. BBC Switch from the late noughties was not the best. If I was the controller for BBC Three, and I was commissioning all new programming for the channel, I'd probably do this: 1. I would use social media talent to make TV shows, and give the talent full creative control. YouTubers on TV doesn't work, because TV isn't the same, and producers and directors don't work the same. Give a YouTuber full creative control, and let them realise their own vision of a show. 2. Adult Animation is key. Adult Swim on E4, Family Guy and American Dad on ITV 2. Both of those channels have animation as part of their schedule. What will BBC Three have? Nothing, currently. I am 24 myself, and while I am an adult, I have a juvenile sense of humour. Put some rude cartoons on. 3. Former CBBC Stars with adult shows. Dick and Dom are a popular nightclub act now, as well as still doing Kid's TV. Give them, give Children's TV stars an opportunity to do something for an older audience, besides Daytime TV or The One Show. 4. Greenlight shows from new creators. Not all of them will be good, or classic, but BBC Three worked best when it was experimenting with new formats. I'd try new stuff, and see what people like. 5. There needs to be some news coverage. Today's 15-34 year olds are probably the most turned on to current affairs than previous generations have been. 60 Seconds doesn't need to come back. Maybe bring back Liquid News, maybe take some examples from Buzzfeed News and NowThis. Ultimately, there should be news shows on BBC Three, and they need to be good. And that's what I'd do. The BBC Three Thread - Roger Darthwell - 24-06-2021 Here is Channel 4's full response on the consultation for BBC Three's return http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/reports/consultation/bbcthreepit/channel-4.pdf The BBC Three Thread - bkman1990 - 25-06-2021 For live sports coverage; I think BBC Three should be used as an option to show live matches from the Under 20's Six Nations Championships to audiences in the UK. BBC Three should also be used as an option in future to show Under 21 football matches from the home nations throughout the calendar year. |
