Was really saddened by this news this morning. Completely unexpected. I've only seen Paul in Friday Night Dinner, and agree that his character was integral to the show, so can't see it continuing without him. RIP Paul.

Editing fail on The Circle tonight, you could see the superimposed TV image 'square' in a shot with Syed during the ratings

I believe a retrospective was due to air this Spring to mark it's 10th anniversary, which may have been filmed, although it had been confirmed no new episodes were planned. Friday Night Dinner for me is probably the best sitcom of the last decade, and indeed possible the only one other than Mrs Browns' Boys to span the decade aswell.

Hasn't 'Not Going Out' spanned the decade too?

Yes, although there wasn’t a regular series for 2 and a bit years at one point.

I've never seen Friday Night Dinner but was aware of Paul through the excellent Chernobyl. A great shame to hear of his passing and 54 is no age really. RIP.

Forgot about that one - not bad for a show axed in 2009. For me though it's a sitcom of two halves with the reboot almost being a spin off.

That for me is the template though for how an FND revival could work in the future - leave it a few years then reposition it as two 30-something brothers with families visiting each other on alternate Fridays for Friday Night Dinner.

That’s a decent idea, however I don’t know how it would work with the brothers being more serious with each other (they can’t put salt in the water in front of their kids surely).

Ackley Bridge is going at 6pm from 19th April, The Simpsons will move to 5.30pm. When was the last time it was taken out of the 6pm slot apart from bank holidays?

It's a comedy - of course they can. The entire premise would be they don't grow up.

They've been airing double bills at 5.30pm for a few weeks now, and have frequently previously. Otherwise it is probably the Paralympics, if indeed it was.

I don’t see it working until they both have kids who are a lot older personally. They need someone else in it other than just the boys and their partners.

I doubt they'll do what they did with NGO on Friday Night Dinner. If Robert Popper feels that the series has come to a natural conclusion then it won't be revived in a few years time.

Finally a show that’s managed to hold into a million of Celeb Bake Off’s lead in last night:

Bake Off = 3.3m
Snackmasters = 1m

Not amazing, but the best result they’ve had since The Circle in the first week, I believe? Should surely make C4 considering the post-Bake Off shows more carefully.

It's very difficult for Channel 4 to find shows that are compatible with Bake Off, it's like Love Island where a huge audience tunes in then tunes out once it's over.

I think my favorite Channel 4 stuff would be all the special ad breaks they made, like this one: https://www.4sales.com/our-work/mcvities-sweeetest-ever-ad-break
I don’t live in the UK, so I’d really like to see how these aired on TV
