If so I suspect it's now back as apart form the lack of announcer everything seems normal. Unless of course the reason there's no announcer is because they're at the backup just now with all the correct media and schedules Years ago they had to use it one morning when a gas leak put Horseferry Road out of action and it was very basic. I wonder if the backup is still where it used to be back then or whether Red Bee have got a better solution within their premises TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread - Brekkie - 14-07-2021 Have asked the mods to split the discussion into a new topic. Two thoughts - firstly I didn't realise tonights Grand Designs was a new revisit, so went to tape it on C4+1 on Freeview. The EPG was weird though, kind of overlaying on top rather than moving along as you scroll through it. Probably a complete coincidence, but never seen it happen before. Secondly and more seriously could this be a cyber attack? Channel Nine was crippled by one a couple of months back and the effects were on going for weeks, whilst several local US channels have been attacked in recent weeks too and basically had to go back to basics running things manually and unable to communicate by internal email etc. This looks very similar from what has been said here. TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread - Brekkie - 14-07-2021 P.S. Is it just C4 affected or have their spin-offs also had breakdowns/lack of ads? Remember BBC One was knocked off air recently because of an incorrect timecode in a file's metadata. There could be any number of far more prosaic reasons. TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread - AllWillBeWell - 14-07-2021 Did anyone manage to record the break down? About 20 years ago? I remember it, they were in DR mode until the middle of the night Programmes in the wrong AR, and no macro regional ads. In fact they even got Sky to repoint all the LEMNUS PIDs to the London stream I think? It was in 2002, as mentioned it happened in the morning but all the idents and trailers were in the wrong aspect ratio and continuity was very basic for the rest of the day. E4 continued as normal tonight, BTW. TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread - PATV Scunthorpe - 14-07-2021 Continuity back now, "And we're back..." to start the V/O over the credits of This Way Up. From what I remember, it ran into the following morning, the switch back to main continuity took place during Powerhouse (the lunchtime political show). Channel 4 Breakdown - TVenthusiasm - 14-07-2021 Wow, didn't know about this til half an hour ago!! While it is good to see E4 rocking on unaffected, C4 must have done something very wrong that caused all this chaos, and hopefully it's not as bad as Channel 9's cyber attack that crippled the network for weeks. Also, it seems that while I was watching C4 15 mins ago, there still was no ads, all it had was a couple of trailers before returning to Gogglebox. Case in point, it's a real shame to see C4 hit almost as bad as C9 down under. Kudos though for all those at C4 marching on despite all this!! I’m not able to check my DVD recordings at the moment, but from memory it was well over an hour without an ad break, if not longer. |
