BBC Wales Today and ITV Wales News - London Lite - 08-05-2021
There were two editions of Wales Today this evening. The first edition from 1730-1800 was fully focused on the election, while the one after the network news was a standard edition featuring other news such as GWR cancelling high speed trains and unusually a studio based weather bulletin with Sabrina Lee instead of a live read which is the norm at weekends.

Looking at this wide shot, I don't think the current set does the studio any justice and it actually makes it look a lot smaller than it is. There is potential to have a much grander looking set in that space.

They did that as they had a guest in the studio as well as Andrea and Adrian so in order to maintain social distancing whilst between 2pm-5pm it was just Andrea and Adrian in the studio.
Ellie Pitt was perfect choice to present the coverage from the Senedd - a very capable presenter and often does Wales at Six when Jonathan or Andrea arent available. Rob Osbourne is great too and good at engaging with the viewers.

Ellie was impressive, but I thought Adrian was so weak doing the stats in the studio, I can't help but wonder if their roles should have been switched.

Very much a team effort. Jonathan did Wales at Six and Richard Morgan the late bulletin whilst almost everyone else from ITV Wales was reporting from across Wales.
Adrian seemed to be there the entire time, even for the late bulletin and yesterdays teatime bulletin. He also joined Tom Bradby live on News at Ten! But then he is the Political Editor.

They do seem to use Adrian quite frequently on the ITV News bulletins as well - usually for lives rather than reports though.

A while back for a report on Jonathan Hill's anniversary they recreated a 90s style opening which I mocked up as an opener and I think zooming in from head on is really effective and works with the set.

It's disappointing to see that BBC 1 Wales, Scotland & NI will be showing the Prime Minister's press conference this afternoon about the next lockdown easing steps in England. I thought that it had been decided to stop showing Covid press conferences that were only applicable to England. Even the description for the BBC News Special on iPlayer this afternoon says: "The latest on the easing of the coronavirus lockdown measures in England". So why show it in NI, Scotland & Wales and confuse viewers then?
Anyone in the nations who wants to know what's happening in England can tune into the News Channel.
The decision to show the PM's press conference this afternoon in Wales, Scotland & NI confirms my suspicion that the UK Govt's Covid press conferences were only dropped from BBC 1 in the devolved nations due to the devolved election period.

yeah, they did them quite a lot in 2014-2018 they did it once in 2020 but only for the ending, they need to do it again

Also, Wales at 6 needs to be like the other regions- on coming up after titles they should put the DUN DUN In between like they used too, and a name tag saying their name. also they should be double headed too. since wales at six moved to Cardiff Bay, its gone really bad

Wales Today is an odd one for weather, they'll either not bother or have three forecasters on throughout the day. A few weeks ago, they had Behnaz Akhgar come in to do the late and that was it!
