New BBC Logo - AlfieMulcahy - 24-07-2021 I was looking through Sounds today and it occurred to me that the new Radio Scotland logo fits in extremely well with this new branding system that's been teased here. https://images.app.goo.gl/QhZdAbkEkhgLwtwz6 New BBC Logo - NancerOnTheLIVEForum - 24-07-2021 To be fair, it's just the regular Scotland logo without an outline. New BBC Logo - Stanley Matravers - 28-07-2021 It occurs to me that BBC Two will once again have an ongoing ident set straddle the eras of two different BBC logos. The curves idents being re-edited to have the new style "BBC Two" replacing the old, is akin to the turquoise 2s being altered in 1997. New BBC Logo - swaggyboi128 - 29-07-2021 For some odd reason the point in the logo animation where the blocks are at least twice as tall as usual reminds me of the NBC xylophone logo. Does 1986 "TWO" ident set straddle the eras of two different BBC logos as well? The "TWO" ident was debuted on 31st March 1986 where the rounded BBC slanted logo still in use, but the then-new BBC logo with Blue-Red-Green underlined box were debuted in 1988. I wouldn't count it, given that that specific ident used neither logo. It is. In 1997, the existing idents had already lasted over six years, so it would have been expected at that time for BBC2 to launch a new look (as BBC1 indeed did) - I presume it's down to the idents' popularity that they were kept on. This time around, the current idents are only three years old and therefore simply still too new to be replaced - though as per 1997 maybe they will take the opportunity to add some new ones and maybe even retire some existing ones (Thought-Provoking is so infrequently used it might as well have been retired!) swaggyboi128 post_id=31462 time= user_id=1485 Wrote:AxiosBrit67 post_id=31461 time= user_id=1688 Wrote:Stanley Matravers post_id=31427 time= user_id=1435 Wrote:It occurs to me that BBC Two will once again have an ongoing ident set straddle the eras of two different BBC logos. Before 1991 you didn't really see the BBC logo on screen that much - its usual appearance being at the ends of programmes and, as has been much discussed in the past, that didn't change (in the main) until the start of 1990. So it's difficult to properly date when the late 80s logo came into being. It's often referred to as the '1988 logo', but I have a copy of the Radio Times dated 2-8 January 1988 - therefore on sale in late December 1987 - which contains a See for Yourself supplement, which already has the new logo on it. New BBC Logo - JAS84 - 29-07-2021 Then presumably it was designed in 1987 for launch in 1988. The current logo is ©1996, but debuted on screen in 1997. New BBC Logo - AxiosBrit67 - 29-07-2021 There are 3 versions of when the "1988 logo" was launched, although the logo was designed by Michael Peters 1. The most common version is the underlined slanted BBC logo were launched in May 1988 with the first on-screen on ITN bank holiday news. On the BBC itself, the first appearance of the new logo was spotted at the BBC Sport ident in 1988 Seoul Olympics. Then in 1990, the BBC unveiled the corporate branding on all radio stations. BBC1 and BBC2 didn't have the corporate "BBC" logo on their idents until 16 February 1991. 2. The second version is the slanted BBC logo were launched in 1987 as per evidence on Radio Times magazine. 3. The less common version is the underlined slanted logo were launched in 1986 per some source from Designweek in 1997, which discuss about the new BBC logo at the time. I think that's the thing, Reith compared to Gill Sans is a boring, but functional typeface, but on its own it's functional. I will admit the new blocks have grown on me, but the size of the letters in the blocks, it still looks off. |
