Brekkie post_id=64732 time= user_id=976 Wrote:It makes sense and as Jez and others have said episodes are better structured as a single hour. In many ways Corrie airing 3 times a week for an hour than six times a week for half an hour feels less too - just hope it doesn't soon become 4 and then 5 hours a week.

I dont think the production team would be able to make 4 or 5 hours a week constantly. When they tried a 7th episode of Emmerdale on a Tuesday (episode extended to 1 hour) it only ran for part of a year (during Summer i think) as it was a massive task for the cast and crew to film an extra episode. And since Covid they seem to have forgotten about the 7th episode thankfully, only having an hour on a Tuesday to make up for any lost episodes.

It does feel less having 1 hour rather than 2 x half hour even though each half episode is around 22 minutes long.

Hopefully this will change the flow and pace of the Corrie episodes if they are going to be produced for the 1hr slot rather than for 2 x 30 without those contrived cliffhangers between the 7.30pm & 8.30pm episodes.

Coronation Street - James2001 - 24-01-2022

I doubt it will change anything, only there'll just be an advert break between said cliffhangers rather than a 30 minute programme.

Coronation Street - JAS84 - 24-01-2022

Yeah, I imagine they'll still have to make half hour versions for international broadcasters.

Coronation Street - Brekkie - 24-01-2022

Although how many linear broadcasters still show it? For streamers such as BritBox 44 minutes probably works better than 22 minutes.

There are a few.

CBC in Canada seems to show it daily at 7pm for 30 minutes with 1 hour on a Friday. But TVNZ shows it in 1 hour blocks already.

I think it does mess up Virgin Media One though who currently mirror the ITV schedule. They have their news bulletin at 8pm.

Coronation Street - Brekkie - 24-01-2022

Guess they might shift the news to 7pm then.

What do they do when Corrie on a Friday is an hour long instead of two half hours?

Looks like they air the news at 7.30pm and Corrie from 8pm, but still billed as two half hour editions. On Thursdays the 8pm Emmerdale goes to 8.30pm.

Coronation Street - JAS84 - 25-01-2022

So it's already messed up anyway. It's odd that they bill it as two half hours when it's aired as a one hour version the same as in the UK. If it really was two half hours complete with titles and credits, they wouldn't need to move the news. Your suggestion that they move the news to 7pm once the ITV schedule changes happen would fix this.

Coronation Street - Brekkie - 25-01-2022

Corrie is still going to give production codes to each half hour initially. If they continue to do so long term it'll really mess up the episode count, though as they've only just had their 10,000th (well, 2 years ago now) we're some way off the next landmark episode number anyway.

Coronation Street - JAS84 - 25-01-2022

6 x 52 = 312. It's only a little over three years to reach 1,000 if they still count each half hour as a separate episode. Episode 11,000 would be next year.

Coronation Street - Brekkie - 25-01-2022

I doubt they'd mark it again till the 15,000th, so sometime between around 2034 and 2048.

Presumably this is going to effect a lot of countries that broadcast the show in half an hour blocks. So they’ll have produce each half an hour as a programme in their own right?

While we're watching episodes from 2025 on ITV 3.
