Particularly as Eurosport 3-9 are so poor and limited in scope.

If they were at least multi event streams it may have helped make up for the reduced BBC coverage, but most of the channels are of events which aren't even of much interest in the UK.
That makes it even more frustrating - they could have permitted the BBC at least iPlayer streams for Cycling, Swimming, Athletics, Rowing and probably Gymnastics without really diluting their own offering. To be fair they'll get the most coverage, but not quite full coverage. Even one red button stream concentrating on them then a second for the best of the rest would make a difference.

I wonder what made them take out that singing bit from the start of the opening titles, it seems like it’s missing something compared to the trailer

Perhaps it was getting annoying, I know I would find it annoying if I had to keep hearing it multiple times a day.

Seems the tennis commentary is on the Court 1 matches today instead of Centre Court, at least on Eurosport Player that's the case... I'd assumed Eurosport 3 was always showing Centre Court, is that the case today?

Eurosport 3 is currently showing Zverev and did show Osaka (sounds like a Centre Court schedule) and is indeed without commentary.

Yep those matches were Centre Court. This page has the complete schedule by court (warning: it shows the RESULTS too…) I happen to know this is definitely the world feed rather than Eurosport's own comms.

One thing Eurosport have done consistently and well is to get the video of ever DX feed up on time. From the comments people are making here, it seems like the majority of people are using, or only have access to, the "numbered" channels, however for me those have been a last resort as there's no real way of knowing what's going to appear on any of them. Also, the Eurosport site is pretty well labelled in terms of replays etc. and I imagine Discovery+ doesn't have any of that.

Nice to see a state of the art graphic with Dan there.

A second forecast at 06:30 today which didn't happen on the weekend shows. Might just be to save time later as they're showing the diving live and in full from 07:00.

The weather was shown in England so that Scotland, Wales and NI could do regional news

I'm thinking back to 2012 and the innovations then such as waymarkers embedded in the live and catch-up streams for key points and changes in sport.

Example here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entries/4f5d7c76-e6a7-3324-b587-21bd3d159d6f

While I know that there isn't the same level of funding behind these games as previously, it's just frustrating more than anything when the BBC coverage is being dumped on iPlayer in 4 hour blocks.

In a word, yes! So many great innovations have been dumped, no doubt due to staff cuts necessitated by the funding cuts forced on the BBC over the last ten years.

My personal technique is to open any given block of coverage in iPlayer on my iPad, jump through it in roughly ten minute intervals until I find something I'd like to watch, then find the actual start, then finally send it to my Chromecast. Ridiculous on some levels but pretty good that it's doable. The playback on Chromecast looks like an excellent 1080p50 to me; a step up from the usual 720p50, and as said before, you can't beat BBC commentary.

I can't help but think that while BBC1 is inevitably going to be "curated" and hence essentially a continuous highlights show, the Red Button stream would be better used playing out complete sessions of the main sports, rather than again trying to shoe-horn in little chunks of everything. I.e. a full rowing session, then a swimming session, then a hockey game etc etc. They could then list those sessions in iPlayer.

Edit: just opened iPlayer this morning and I'm seeing labelled coverage: the men's Tri, a Swimming Medal Session, Skateboarding Women's Street Final; that's good.

I love the Olympics and, although it's not their fault, the lack of extra channels from the BBC this time around has been a disappointment.

Who can remember the 24 HD and 24 SD channels of London 2012? As an Olympics fan, this was heaven for me.

Perhaps HMG should think about making all OBS streams "protected".

Yes, I'm not paying extra for Discovery+/Eurosport player. We pay enough as it is!

I wonder if one of the reasons their linear offerings are so poor is a way to try and get people to pay the extra for it.

I partially blame the BBC for this: if they hadn't long since closed off all but one of their red button channels, I suspect they might well have agreed a contract with more than one additional live stream. And of course the dreadful picture quality on 601 is down to them.

Sadly I can't realistically see any UK government caring sufficiently to safeguard live uninterrupted coverage on FTA of canoe slalom or softball - as far as they're concerned, the bit they've already successfully "protected" is the coverage on BBC ONE…

I miss the BBC too.

I've tried the following ways to watch the Olympics on my laptop and I must be the most unlucky person in the world, or their websites are terrible.

Eurosport Player

- Kept getting 'Sonic API errors', their help support told me to change DNS to 1.1.1.1 which didn't help so got a full refund

Eurosport via Amazon

- Player worked but in SD only and had very limited sports covered

Discovery +

None of them are fit for purpose IMO...

Lutalo Muhammad has been one of the highlights of the BBC's coverage so far, such a natural in the studio and really doesn't look like someone who's doing it for the first time after competing at the last Olympics. It's a shame taekwondo isn't something that's on telly more often, as he's a great find.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 on BBC and Eurosport - Steve in Pudsey - 26-07-2021

The OBS astons on the Women's Synchro
Diving abbreviated Shi Tingmao's name in quite an unfortunate way.
