Looks like the African Cup of Nations is not the only sporting event BBC Three will be showing in a few weeks time as it will also be broadcasting extended highlights of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

I wonder if live sport will ever be shown on BBC Four again. I expect not as I can't remember there ever being any on there as an overspill when BBC Three was a linear channel first time round.

This was first time BBC Four ever showed any live sport - some unscheduled golf coverage that had been delayed by bad weather, one Friday evening in July 2015. It could not go on BBC2 due to the First Night of the Proms. Not sure why they passed over BBC Three on that occasion, maybe it was felt that golf didn't sit well with the channel demographic.

Snooker fits nicely on BBC4 and they did start using it a bit last year but have returned to using the red button in the evenings.

There's also the Commonwealth Games in a few months. The last time they were on, the BBC mainly showed coverage on Red Button (and even launched an HD channel for it, taking some of CBBC HD's hours)

It will almost certainly be back on Three. It always felt out of place on Four.

Noticed that there is a revised closedown/startup slide as well.
