No green titles for the RTÉ Six-One News which is a shame. Perhaps the decision not to use them this year is in deference to the situation in Ukraine.

I've read that Virgin Media Ireland have made an announcement today for their cable subscribers in The Republic of Ireland. The new station is called Virgin Media More which is sort of like a Sky Atlantic type channel for the cable platform. It will be on Channel 100 on the EPG. They have content like The Serpent & Bellator. It doesn't seem like a good addition though if they try trying to prioritize their premieres away from Virgin Media One.

I don’t think it will be anything like Sky Atlantic, tbh! It’ll be interesting to see what they do offer. The idea as far as I can make out seems to be to preview stuff early for VM cable customers. There’s no indication that they’ve secured anything extra or exclusive for it. But I suppose it hasn’t officially been launched yet, so let’s see.
RTE kept their St Patrick’s Day DOGs today, which is a one-time-only extra bank holiday in Ireland this year.

Another bit of news regarding the Culá 4 channel in Ireland. TG4 had released a short survey in conjunction with NUI Galway about the establishment of the channel to increase the level of Irish among young people from Ireland. The survey from NUI Galway had closed some time ago.

You go into Translate in your browser to translate it from Irish to English. Apparently TG4 didn't cover Saorview to promote Culá 4. They apparently want this station to be online and maybe other linear platforms in Ireland.

Just had a random question pop into my head about Irish broadcasting. Do any of the channels have a “LEMNUS”-type of system (different ads on different transmitters) or is it the same feed across the country?

Virgin Media Sport will it seems close as a stand-alone service at that point, though the red button channels will remain for Europa League and Nations League clashing fixtures.

Same feed across the country (there were regional opt out experiments on RTE One in the past though. They gave up because the cable arrangements at the time made it difficult to ensure viewers got the right feed).
Slightly OT It should properly be “LEMNUSI” now though, because there is indeed an extra Channel 4 advertising feed for the Republic of Ireland. (Irish adverts were a feature of the Ulster (Northern Ireland) feed from the off, of course, but less of a feature now that ROI has its own feed.)

Virgin Media Sport closed down for the last time at 1am last night, with Virgin Media More launching on the VM cable platform only at 9pm tonight.

There is a special concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of RTÉ RnaG on RTÉ One tomorrow night. It will take place at 10:35pm.
Ryan Tubridy has also mentioned earlier on Friday night that there will be a special 60th anniversary edition of The Late Late Show taking place later this year.

RTÉ One is to broadcast another limited set of live programmes focusing on Ireland's healthcare system from next week. Hospital Live, primarily broadcast from Beaumont Hospital, will be focusing on giving upcoming developments from hospitals all around the country.
To be honest I am very surprised that RTÉ are commiting themselves to do this programme at this time while we are still in the pandemic. There are still variants of Covid being detected all the time while people take in Covid tests while within their own countries. Do you think this programme like this should have been allowed to go ahead.
