Subtitles - technologist - 20-07-2021 MatijaTelevizija I expect the cable company does not add the teletext component to the transport stream …. I suggest contacting the cable company…. As BBC DSAT has both Teletext for Sky and DVB for Freesat ..it may be that the cable company following EC guidance prefers DVB ST …. johnnyboy it’s sad that a lot if this is from almost 30 years ago … And the expertise has been lost as things have become a commodity. …I wait for the call from Stockley Park !!! EBU tech 3264 dates from 1988 …. I hope Timed text will come in for major channels soon …. But it then takes ages to trickle down to others …. But Teletext is from 1972/4 so it’s almost 50 ! And what exactly is Timed text ? Subtitles - MatijaTelevizija - 21-07-2021 In my SD digiboxes and I believe in some Virgin media boxes they have subtitles originated in 4:3 and stretched to 16:9 Subtitles - technologist - 21-07-2021 DVB subtitles are meant to be rendered on the glass not as part if the picture … So different aspect ratios mean less distortion of the font ….. But it did not work out like that in stb …. Despite not being designed to be aspect ratio tolerant (despite what some say) It was more tolerant than many fonts Subtitles - MatijaTelevizija - 01-08-2021 Does the Simpsons have the same subtitles on Sky One and Channel 4 ? I never noticed if they were different if not Subtitles - wonkey_monkey - 16-08-2021 Some rare magenta subtitles can be seen on iPlayer in the first scene of Yes, Minister series episode 5. Given there was a limited amount of programmes subtitled then that would show the importance of Yes, Minster Subtitles - wonkey_monkey - 17-08-2021 Gallunach post_id=34657 time= user_id=1533 Wrote:wonkey_monkey post_id=34545 time= user_id=1364 Wrote:Some rare magenta subtitles can be seen on iPlayer in the first scene of Yes, Minister series episode 5.I noticed 1983 coming up on last few weeks of episodes so presumably they were done for original transmission. Yes, they're not verbatim as they would be today. Even less so during Humphrey's speeches. Sorry did not see this Timed Text is a form of Text within XML IMSC1 https://www.w3.org/TR/ttml-imsc1.0.1/ It is hoped that this will be a uniform way of handling Captions(subtitles) In all Media there are some different flavours of it SMPTE ST 2052-1 - this is what Film subtitles in a DCP for films it is also "safe habor" for TV company delivering an captioned program to a streaming company https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/servlet/opac?punumber=7292143 - its free! EBU TT this has three flavours a File format EBU 3560 replacing EBU 3264 a "serial line" form for "live" EBU3660 replacing Newfor and lots of others! a distribution form EBU3580 which is what the client machine /Tv gets https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/factsheets/ebu_tech_fs_ebu-tt.pdf And this is what the BBC are doing with it https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2020-07-streamable-subtitles-ip-production |
