Was it audience research or will he swoop on GBN if it fails and create Sky News.02?From the Rebekah Brooks memo when plans for a News UK rolling news channel were shelved: “We determined early on in that review that it was not commercially viable to launch a traditional news channel on linear TV. ... Whilst there is consumer demand for alternative news provision, the costs of running a rolling news channel are considerable, and it is our assessment that the payback for our shareholders wouldn’t be sufficient.” GB News - derek500j - 30-07-2021 valley post_id=31784 time= user_id=971 Wrote:Fluffy Bunny Feet post_id=31769 time= user_id=1311 Wrote:I want a variety of TV news services but it does beg the question why did Rupert Murdoch pulled out of launching his service? Was it audience research or will he swoop on GBN if it fails and create Sky News.02?From the Rebekah Brooks memo when plans for a News UK rolling news channel were shelved: Not being a 'traditional news channel' without the high costs of news gathering, surely means GB News needs a much lower budget? Rebekah Brooks is now investing in TalkRadio TV. Neil has had a couple of little digs at things Farage has said on Twitter. It’s clear if and when he comes back he’s no longer going to be the hottest property on the channel in terms of ratings as it seems like Farage will out perform his show. On the other hand, the few times I’ve watched Farage he’s constantly been praising Neil, so it’s clear he sees him as key to the channels success. You do have to wonder how involved with the signing of Farage, Andrew Neil was and whether he’ll be happy to be the second most high profile star on the station. And that was 20 years ago when television was probably still the main way "24 hour news" was consumed.valley post_id=31784 time= user_id=971 Wrote:Fluffy Bunny Feet post_id=31769 time= user_id=1311 Wrote:I want a variety of TV news services but it does beg the question why did Rupert Murdoch pulled out of launching his service? He might well return to find both Dan Wooton and Farage beating him in the ratings. Back to his tweet, of course different presenters on a channel like this should be allowed to have different opinions and disagree with each other. That's why Guito Hari was allowed to carry on presenting... GB News - Rob - 31-07-2021 A friendly reminder to keep discussion to the channel and its presentation please, and to keep any political thoughts to yourself. Thanks. This was also the photo on the ‘information’/‘lower thirds’ bar on Sky Q. Was it audience research or will he swoop on GBN if it fails and create Sky News.02?From the Rebekah Brooks memo when plans for a News UK rolling news channel were shelved: Surely, that is the problem though. GBN was billed as an alternative to the existing news channels. To run a newsroom is very expensive unless you use cub reporters from uni just copy and pasting from wires with no double or triple checking the sources are factually accurate. Most newsrooms have PA/wires type services - if that's what they have it will be no different to the existing broadcasters. They need reporters out in the regions to have any clout and then even local BBC and ITV will outnumber them 100-1. GB News - London Lite - 31-07-2021 I'm also not keen on the McCoy/Gallacher pairing. If it wasn't for the likes of Muroki being dreadful, I'd be raising questions about Kirsty as the only time she lights up is when she's doing the sports segments. Quite good to have long form discussions as an alternative to the same news stories repeated every half hour. |
