Spring Pixie post_id=31554 time= user_id=1785 Wrote:Whether you love him or hate him (and I'm in the latter camp for the record) one thing Farage has charisma and personality. I've always felt that if Farage had taken a different path and done documentaries or the like and left politics alone they'd actually be informative and interesting because, as much as it pains me to say it, he's actually a great broadcaster.

While he’s undoubtedly bringing in the numbers compared with the dire figures for the rest of the output, it’s mildly embarrassing for Farage and GBN that his ranting about the RNLI has led to an outpouring of donations and support for them - other charities will be queueing up to have him criticise them on-air.

He can't!!! There's only 5,000 out of 26m homes recording BARB data. Strange thing to say.
Despite GBN crowing about NF's viewer numbers it's still waaay below even ITV regional news at 1800hrs - they get about 25% of the audience which is about 350-400k in the Yorkshire area alone. Local BBC get even more so GBN has a long way to catch up.

That still doesn’t mean there’s any proof that there are absolute 0 viewers, as the tweets were saying.

GB News - TJTSW - 30-07-2021

With regards to the GB viewers and how many watch, is this just for the people who watch on the main stream telly service that barb use or does this include watching on the GBnews app? Or other social media outlets that GBN/ GBNews use? As for me I don’t tend to watch GBNews on the main telly, I use their app on my phone/ laptop. Does this get counted? If not why not and why are people shouting about how many people view things if only a selected few get included in viewership numbers ?! ?‍?

People are quick to write off GB News because of low viewers but is the actual stock taking of how many viewers correct and including what viewers are watching GBNews from which platform ?!

Don’t get me wrong I watch it at random points of the day, sometimes I’ll watch for an hour or so and stay wanting to watch more, then other days I’ll switch on and think oh my jeez and watch old clips of Gus Honeybun on Westward & TSW from YouTube as that’s more entertaining then GBNews, as I’ve said before I think Rosie is a great asset to GBNews!
The Great British Breakfast is a good show for GBNews however the studio set up does need a revamp & rethink

Farage…. As many have said he’s a great broadcaster, political talk - he goes too far at times, but he says it how it is,

It’s still early days for the channel and it’s still finding its feet, presenters come and go like a merry go round, the “ I want to be on telly and be famous” attitude seems to hinder this some though GBNews would be a cheap step to walk this catwalk but ended up walking the plank for a pirate… so have left or said things on air they shouldn’t of

I think GBNews is trying to please all but failing to please the majority, but at least it’s trying

I loves the old way itv regions use to be but when it all merged I hated it, down here In the South West, we got a rubbish deal with news based in Bristol the lack of care of the far south west viewer was clear they didn’t give a hoot about us, all they cared about was the Bristol based viewers (at the time) , they have improved( ian Axton really did help, Kylie was another great asset, but she thinks she can be bigger then the show and got onto National ITV Weekend News, but is now suffering) but at least ITV regional news are a bit more open up and down the country… I’ve only just been on their website and see they upload both west & southwest 6.30 programmes on their website now, so you can watch both versions. But I will always be a local telly watcher and for now bbc spotlight / BBC South West will be my first to go to, even though that’s now changing & more recorded then live output due to bbc cut backs but they do make great use of their studio space, either at the desk, sofa/ CGI area or using the screens, it would be a shame to see a local studio like bbc spotlight have go to waste.

Any way I ramble on ?

Back to GBNews… it’s still finding it’s feet… like anything new it will take time, changes and trying to do things that viewers might not expect, don’t write of them channel yet… let them explore what works for them and what doesn't, then watch them put the good things that do work into a schedule on the channel and see it grow ?

He says it as he thinks it is.

As many have said he's a good communicator, but then of course he is, that's how he's managed to persuade people to his (or who ever funds him) way of thinking. There's a lot of people of his ilk who are good communicators and know exactly what to say and how to say it to get a following.

It's not all bad of course, he's helped one of the UK's biggest charities raise a lot of money this week after he started campaigning against them.

If that's 'telling it like it is' then he can have a go at a few other charities too Big Grin

GB News - James2001 - 30-07-2021

Farage definitely doesn't "tell it as it is"... but I can't say more without breaking the no politics rule.

GB News - BettyS - 30-07-2021

It must be embarrassing for Andrew Neil having to deal with this now. The only way to get viewers is having a go at respected good causes which save lives. Hopefully the wider public will click with all this TV exposure and realise they have been conned.

I'm not sure Neil has had much to do with it, he's not there at the mo and when he is he's chairman of the company rather than directly in charge.

There does seem to be a degree of 'reverse ferret' from Farage, GB News and Andrew Neil himself. This tweet has a lot of people pointing out his connection to the story:

GB News - Jon - 30-07-2021

The Andrew Neil situation is just getting even more confusing. Neil has had a couple of little digs at things Farage has said on Twitter. It’s clear if and when he comes back he’s no longer going to be the hottest property on the channel in terms of ratings as it seems like Farage will out perform his show. On the other hand, the few times I’ve watched Farage he’s constantly been praising Neil, so it’s clear he sees him as key to the channels success. You do have to wonder how involved with the signing of Farage, Andrew Neil was and whether he’ll be happy to be the second most high profile star on the station.

GB News - Brekkie - 30-07-2021

Presumably Andrew Neil signed off on his appointment though. If he didn't then there are bigger problems there than we realise.

Just wanted to say thanks for highlighting this – had a listen this afternoon whilst out on a walk and thought it was really interesting.

No worries, it's funny that Guto Harri posed exactly the same question Jon just did - can Neil and Farage work happily alongside each other on this station?

Harri isn't sure, but also happily admitted he was wrong about a few things regarding GB News!

Agreed, I'm just pointing out the context of what's meant to be a national broadcaster's boast about viewer numbers.
If you were to break down, say 95k viewers into just 12 regions, you get just under 8k in each one.
GBN needs much more penetration to survive and at this rate is struggling against local city TV stations (and GBN has much bigger set up costs and salaries). I want a variety of TV news services but it does beg the question why did Rupert Murdoch pulled out of launching his service? Was it audience research or will he swoop on GBN if it fails and create Sky News.02?
